Note: A little oneshot for Smile Life Away's Kissing in the Rain Challenge! Normally I don't write Lily/Frank shizz, but that's who I was assigned (sneaky little challenger!) so I hope I do an OK job on it! ENJOY!
Running Barefoot
A Harry Potter ONESHOT/Challenge Thingamajig
By: Indigo March
It was raining. That much was obvious to fifth year Lily Evans. The fiery redhead looked out the window longingly, yearning to run barefoot through the mud, the rain falling gently to the ground, casting a strange—yet welcome—calmness across the grounds of Hogwarts.
Most of the girls here at Hogwarts shrieked at the sight of it, not wanting any type of element to ruin their hair or their clothes, which made Lily laugh. Rain was AWESOME!
As soon as the last class of the day was over, she dumped her books in an inglorious heap by the Great Oak doors in the Entrance Hall, pushing them open and heading out into the courtyard. Without any hesitation she kicked off her shoes next to the courtyard fountain and headed out onto the grounds.
As the familiar sensation of mud squelched through her toes, Lily felt a large smile spread across her face—those bimbos had no idea what they were missing.
A laugh escaped her throat as she spun around, the rain falling all around her, chilling her to the bone but calming her all at once.
She became aware of a tall figure sitting under the canopy of the birch tree facing the lake, his tall legs crossed in front of him as he watched the Giant Squid swim lazily across the lake, marveling at the water coming from above him.
"Frank!" she called happily, obtaining the attention of the boy, who turned to look at her, smiling his goofy trademark grin. She joined him under the tree.
"You're soaked," he said with a laugh.
"I know! Isn't it wonderful?"
He grinned, shaking his head at her. "You're something else, you know that right?"
She cocked an eyebrow. "Is that a good thing?"
He nodded hurriedly. "Oh, yes."
They sat in companionable silence, watching the rain create ripples against the unusually choppy black surface of the lake.
"Lily, do you mind if I try something?" he asked nervously.
She looked at him curiously. "Like what, Frank?"
"Well…." he trailed off, uncertain.
"Frank?"
"Erm—can I kiss you?"
Lily blinked. "Okay."
So he kissed her.
