It was a normal day at school when Rhodey approached Tony's locker with an amused smile on his face. Tony noticed it skeptically.
"What's so funny?" He asked.
"Oh, just the best rumor I've heard all year." Rhodey explained, holding his smirk.
"What would that be?" Tony asked as he shut his locker door and began walking to class, Rhodey following.
"You're so gonna freak when you hear it." Rhodey said.
"Is it about me?"
"Yeah. You and a certain someone."
"Who? What is this rumor?" Tony asked, desperate to know.
"People are saying the only reason you and Whitney broke up is because you like Pepper." Rhodey explained, chuckling.
"What? That's so not true! Why would someone think that?" Tony asked, confused. The last thing he wanted was for a rumor to create havoc in his friendship with his best friend.
"Oh, gee, maybe because you do? Or, what will sound more likely in your mind, you guys just look and act like a couple all the time?" Rhodey explained.
"We do not act like a couple and I don't like Pepper that way. Were just friends! Where do people get these things? I don't understand rumors." Tony said angrily.
"Welcome to high school drama, Tony."
Tony was silent a moment before responding.
"Well...this stinks..." Tony said. "Does this happen a lot?"
"With most people, yeah. The quiet ones are usually just ignored, so they don't really face drama."
"Well, I don't want this spreading too far. How do I stop it?"
"I dunno, dude, I've never had a rumor spread about me." Rhodey said with a shrug.
"Well, this is just great…"
"Maybe if you told her how feel, this would all blow over faster..." Rhodey chimed quietly as they walked off to class.
