Disclaimer: I own very little.
A/N: The Taka-san and Dan here are based on their respective characterisations in the LJ-based roleplaying game Tenipuri University. Shortly, Dan studies Electrical Engineering, while Taka-san is a Culinary major. Both have recently gone through a break-up, so they are somewhat careful about relationships.
Hope You're Hungry
"Dan-kun? Are you all right?"
"Hm?" Dan looked up from where he was playing with the kittens. "Why would you ask that?"
"You've been kind of quiet today." Crouching down next to Dan, Taka-san eyed him carefully. "Is something wrong? Please, tell me."
"Oh, it's nothing." Dan smiled, but it wasn't his usual bright smile. "I've just been… thinking desu." He returned his gaze to the kittens.
"Thinking about what?" Taka-san reached to take Saika into his hands. The little thing mewed before purring.
"Just… things." Dan was quiet for a while. Taka-san petted Saika, waiting patiently. Something was obviously bothering Dan, but surely Dan would tell him if it was something truly important.
Finally, just as Taka-san was about to speak again, Dan broke the silence.
"…I've been losing weight desu."
The simple sentence made Taka-san freeze. Suddenly he recalled Yukimura, thin arms, pale skin, oh no there's nothing to worry about… Looking at Dan, he managed to ask, "…Why?"
"Force of habit, I guess." Dan sighed. "I often don't remember to eat properly desu. Before, I made up for that with the sweets, but ever since I started avoiding sugar, I've been consuming less energy than I use. And I was slightly underweight to begin with, so…"
"So you are getting even more so." Taka-san frowned. "That's not good, Dan-kun."
"I know desu." Dan smiled humourlessly. "I try to eat, honestly I do, but sometimes I just… forget desu. So, I don't get enough."
"Oh, Dan-kun." Taka-san sighed. "Guess I'll just have to start feeding you more."
Dan looked startled. "Ah, that's really not – I didn't mean that desu! It's not that big a deal, really desu, you shouldn't concern yourself –"
"If it bothers you, it is big enough a deal to concern me." Taka-san smiled soothingly. "Besides, if you fade away pound by pound, what will the kittens and I do? We need as much of our little Dan-kun as we only can get."
Dan flushed a bit. "I don't want to be a bother," he muttered.
"You couldn't be a bother if you tried." Taka-san set a hand on Dan's shoulder. "Really, Dan-kun. What do you think will happen to my reputation as an excellent cook if I let my friend starve? I demand that you let me feed you."
"But I really…" Dan trailed off. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have brought it up desu."
"Oh, no. It's a good thing you did," Taka-san argued. "For one thing, it was bothering you, and for another, it's obviously something that both can and has to be resolved. You know I always cook too much for just myself. So, starting from now on, I'm going to feed you, too."
"…Fine." Dan sighed. "But I warn you, it's a losing battle desu. My mother's been trying for 19 years."
Taka-san smiled. "Great. I've always liked challenges."
Now, finally, Dan truly smiled a bit. It was small and somewhat weak, yes, but still a smile. "…Good thing I'm such a difficult person, then desu."
"I wouldn't say that about you," Taka-san said. "But yes. Yes, it is."
Seiun chose this exact moment to purr.
Both men quietly agreed with him.
