It had already been a long day, Lily had been flooded with victims from multiple Death Eater attacks. The last few days alone, she hadn't been able to tell the difference between each days; so they had all merged into one day. So by extension, it had been a long day.

For the first time in a long time, she had the opportunity to sit down in the healers lounge next to the emergency room. "Merlin. That has to be the longest day since my first year." she joked to her friend, Alice.

"Yeah almost as bad as the times we would stay up all night in Hogwarts." Alice was a friend from Hogwarts, Alice was a few years ahead of Lily at school but due to both of the being prefects they became really good friends.

"But that was only one night! What day is it today? Monday? Tuesday?" Lily questioned, it had been that long since she checked what day it was.

"Wednesday." Alice replied, she rubbed her hands over her face trying to wake up her eyelids as much as possible, no luck there.

"Wow. These attacks are getting worse and more frequent." Lily knew it was bad, she got to see first hand the destruction of Voldemort's followers had done, but always thought there would be a light at the end of the tunnel. "We need something good to happen, something to take our minds off this whole madness." Lily pulled her hair out of her ponytail, she positioned herself on the sofa so that her head was on one armrest and her feet were on the other.

"Speaking of happy things, I have some news. I wanted to tell you when we had time and this is the first time in days that we have been in the same place for an period of time longer than 10 minutes." Alice was so excited that she didn't take a breath.

"Calm down. What is it?" Lily asked moving her body to be upright so she could look at Alice's face.

"Frank and I are engaged!" Alice screamed, both of the girls got out of their seats and began to jump and scream together.

"Merlin! That's amazing! I'm so happy for you!" LIly grabbed onto Alice's arms and brought her abruptly to a stop, "how did he propose? I want to hear all the details!"

"Well, he asked me on Sunday night, we went on a romantic dog walk and when we came to an opening where the scenery was unreal he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Which I said yes."

"That sounds amazing. The cutest thing ever." Lily was so overwhelmed with joy that she began to cry.

"There's one thing I'm going to need to talk to you about." Alice said guiding Lily to seat down again. "I want you to be my maid of honour, Lily. Since Hogwarts, we had been through everything together and I wanted to do this journey with you as well."

"The honour is all mine, there is nothing I would want more." Lily began to wipe away the tears, trying to hold herself together but doing a horrible job.

"There is also something else I want to talk to you about." Alice's face had started to go very pale, her voice became very shallow. "Frank's asked James to be his best man. I asked him not to, but he said that he had the right to choose his best man as much as I had the right to choose my maid of honour."

"Alice, there is nothing to worry about, it is your wedding day. You are like another sister to me, not that my real sister does a good job at that title, but if it's important to you I will play nice and be civil." Lily tried to reassure Alice. Alice had been there throughout everything that happened, so Alice knew how hard it had been on Lily and how hard it would be to be in the same room as him. It had been almost three years ago to the day, that James had told Lily that he cheated on her and was in love with this person, within the day Lily had moved out.

"Are you sure? I know what he did to you."

"It won't be a problem. I'm there for you, not him."

"BIG TRAUMA COMING IN!" another healer screaming as they were running to the emergency room.

"No time for sleep then." Alice commented before of them were on there way to the emergency room.

The emergency room was made up of around 12 beds for non critical care, 3 trauma rooms for critical patients and through two different corridors there are two different operating rooms for patients that need the extra room and equipment for critical injuries. This difference between this emergency room and other muggle emergency rooms, is how the patients enter the room. The patients are assessed and brought back to the healer's hospital by 'travel healers', like ambulance drivers for muggles, these travel healers assess and use a form of floo powder to get back to the healer's hospitals. This floo powder is different to the average wizard or witches household floo powder, this powder doesn't have to be used in a fireplace (so the patient can be brought back to the emergency room as quick as possible), and only brings the users to the nearest hospital. This is the only way patients can enter the emergency room, so before they are brought to the emergency room there would be no threat to the rest of the building. A single travel healer is sent back almost immediately to give the hospital as much information as possible before the patients come in. There is only a limited amount of powder given to each travel healer to avoid it getting into the wrong hands.

"What have we got?" Lily asked her students as they came into the emergency room, she grabbed her hair and put it back up into a ponytail.

"Death Eater attack, three civilians with minor injuries, but an off duty auror took most of the Death Eaters out. He has extensive injuries." A young student replied with no muttering or hesitation in her voice.

"Okay." she turned on her heels to face her students, she pointed, "you three on the three minor cases, one each, any problems see your healer is charge Healer Prewett." there was only one student left, "it's Amber isn't it?"

"Yes Healer Evans. Thank you for choosing me for the this case."

"Just Lily is fine, and you deserve this. Top of your class in Transfiguration, Herbology and Potions at Hogwarts, you are smart but I need you to do well under pressure to become a good healer."

"Of course, yes." Amber replied with a determined look on her face, as if nothing was going to hold her back.

"What's the name of the patient?" Lily asked her student.

'Umm." the girl rummaged through the papers in her arms trying to find the name.

Swish. Purple flames blow up in the emergency room doorway to show that patients were arriving.

"Minor patients to the left, and the auror this way to the operating room!" Lily proclaimed loudly over the incoming noise. Her three other student took to their positions of wheeling their patient to one of non critical beds and began reading their chart. As the minor patients had arrived and gone over to the non critical beds; the only patient they were waiting on was the auror. There was a moment of silence for Lily to take a breath and Amber to look for the Auror's name even more. The loud rumble of the emergency room went quiet and it gave Lily time to compose herself before the patient arrived, she had time to clear her mind of all distractions because until she was out of surgery, she was a healer, not a friend or a maid of honour, in that moment they were distractions. She inhaled.

Swish, and the final patient had arrived, "Amber I need the patient's name now!", Lily proclaimed loudly to ensure Amber heard her as she moved away from her and towards the patient. She looked down at the extent of his injuries, and it wasn't good. At least 4 external gashes and an unknown number of internal hexes or worse curses.

Amber found the paperwork and began to read the patient's name out. "The patient's name is -"

Lily looked down at the patient and recognised him immediately, "It's James Potter."
