CHAPTER ONE: The Sappy Charms Class/Cho Chang sat crying quietly on the bed of an almost barren Room of Requirements. Every single day of the first month of her 7th year at Hogwarts so far, Cho had used it to bury her feelings in, and it had been her pastime during every free period. All of her free time was spent in this little room, locked away, tears rushing along her face. The friends she used to spend hours talking to in the Ravenclaw common room grew heavily suspicious of her, and now cannot bring themselves to say a peep to her face. The Ravenclaw quidditch team of which she used to be a star seeker on, kicked her off because of lack of focus, decreased skill, and low game attendance rate. But she understood. She wasn't Perfect Miss Popular anymore and frankly she didn't even care the slightest. What bothered her was that she was alone. Forever.
Cedric's death ruined her. Some of the younger students might of thought her a strong, badass witch back when he was alive. Now they know what I've always really been, Cho thought as she whimpered into her wet hair. A sappy, broken girl who is hopeless and has no future. The summer leading up to Cho's 7th year was spent laying on the sand of the beach by their family's tiny summer hut, crying with the waves. Occasionally in her room, spending restless hours sending angry spells at her wardrobe. She went out for coffee with Amos, Cedric's dad a couple times as well and they'd mourn together.
And then there's Harry. Oh Harry, how Cho regretted getting mad at him on their first date in Hogsmeade. Harry had such a big crush on her, and she blew it. Now if only she could get over that guilt, face him and say sorry for everything. Then there's Ron Weasley. Harry's cute ginger best friend. Cho thought that would easily work out, and they'd be a good couple. But she just couldn't talk to any guys right now, she felt frozen out of reality after all she went through. Gosh, how does everyone else do it? How do they so effortlessly get over loss and fight back? She felt like she was the only one. A loser.
With this awful idea circling in her brain, Cho screamed, and let more tears stream down the reddening apples of her cheeks. She pushed herself against the wall of the room, making her leather watch she'd totally forgotten about slip of her wrist and to the floor. She crouched down for a second to see it, the tears slowing down as her eyes transfixed on the watch. She curled closer and sat, crisscrossed and brought the muggle screen up to her. She gasped and fixed her hair, standing up and putting the watch back on. It was practically 1:15! The free break was over because she had charms. Running along the corridor, she hurled up to the charms classroom, by the black lake. Professor Flitwick smiled at her as she took her seat and slapped her books down.
"Sorry I'm late, Professor, the halls were really busy and I-" Cho panicked.
"No worries, Miss Chang. Get settled and read page 203 of Wand's Charming Advancement, "Comeback Jinxes." He assured. "Yes, sir. Thank you," Cho gulped. During class, most of her spells were all successful. At least she had good marks, she thought, and she actually smiled at herself for once. After each team finished conjuring their last jinx duel, everyone slowly filed out of the classroom, underlining the last bits of information on their parchment and putting away the little rocks they charmed on. Cho pushed her books into her, and was just about to slip through the doorframe when she swept her hair back and caught sight of Flitwick motioning Cho to his desk. She was confused, but it felt fine walking up to to her head of house, the little man, his glasses ridged upon his nose.
"Would you like anything, Professor?" Cho asked politely.
"A word is all. Come here, Miss Chang, I won't bite." He said sweetly, all father-like.
Cho came up to him, and the man looked into the eyes of his bright student.
"Cho, you haven't been acting much yourself lately. Is anything going on?" Cho said nothing, looking nervously at her house head because she knew he knew. He put her quivering face in his hands and said calmly, "Cho. You need to go to Hogsmeade, you didn't all last year after you went with Harry. I insist you get out there and socialize Cho, your a good kid and all this behavior is unhealthy for such an innocent, bright girl. I'll be checking tomorrow morning, I must see you at the station!" He told her. Cho nodded. "Get on now, will you?" He chuckled at her, tapping her shoulder and leading her off.
Cho looked at herself in the mirror of the girls washroom at Ravenclaw Tower. Taking deep breaths, she slowly exited and made her way to the great hall. The students were lined up by house and were talking amongst themselves. Cho shivered slightly and made her way up to the caregiver, Mr. Argus Filtch, his face fixed in a begrudging, dirty look as always. Mrs. Norris, his faithful shaggy cat, was held dearly into his chest, her red eyes swooshing along with her tail. She handed him her pass and slipped into the carriages. Some of her ex-friends stared at her, and she shied away to dodge some possibly painful insults. She was in luck, though, because they just stared at her weirdly.
Here I go, Cho thought as the carriages pulled into the muddy ground at Hogsmeade Station. She reciprocated the smile that Flitwick gave her as she got out, wrapping her Ravenclaw scarf around her and grabbing her bags. And then Cho walked slowly off to Madame Puddifoot's Tea Shop, only thinking about the whole "couples spot" reputation when she was an inch from the rusted gold door.
