A/N: This is for Delancey Week. I hope ya'll like it.

Starting to Surface

Oscar Delancey walked through the streets of Manhattan, his head was hung low. He wished he never listened to his brother Morris. Morris was the tough guy, Oscar just didn't want to left out so he adopted his brothers though guy quality.

Oscar knew that since his last name was Delancey he would never get what he wanted; a girl. But he did just want any girl he wanted a specific girl; her name was Falls.

If it were any other girl he could be the real him; the kind him, but Falls was a newsgirl and she had already seen the tough guy mask. He had even tried to talk to her once but she seemed frightened by him.

With a sigh Oscar sat on a bench, closed his eyes and listened to the sounds of night in this city that was around him. He liked the quiet times he could get when his brother was gone.

"Oscar?" He herd a familiar, female voice say.

His eye shot open and he looked at the blonde haired beauty that was standing there watching her, "Falls? What are you doing out here this late?" he was concerned he knew if Morris was with him Falls would be hurt.

"I was just on my way back to the lodging house, when I can across you." She said calmly slightly confused at the same time. "Are you okay? You just looked so…so…I don't know, peaceful."

Oscar looked into her ocean blue eyes and thought that maybe he had a chance to be himself now. "I'm fine; I was steeling away the quit I have without Morris here. Do you want to join me?" He asked hoping he voice didn't sound to eager.

"I shouldn't, Jack will be mad that I'm late getting back now." She must have noted the disappointed look that crossed his face. "But I would like it if you walked me back. The dark alleys kind of scare me at night."

Oscar instantly perked up, "I'd like that." He held his arm out like the gentle man that he had buried deep inside. Falls smiled slightly shocked, but placed a gentle hand on his arm and let him lead her the last few blocks to the lodging house.

Upon reaching the lodging house Oscar took her hand lightly in his and kissed it softly, "I hope to see you again, but as me, not as a Morris clone."

"I'd like that. I very much liked the Oscar I saw tonight." Falls said kindly. "I hope you have a good night Oscar." She said before turning and walking up the stairs and in the door.

Once it was safely closed he took off at a run up the street, "Yes!" he shouted as he ran. So now Oscar Delancey had a chance at the girl and hope for the Oscar that was starting to surface again.
