I do not own Labyrinth or its characters
I normally write Jane and the Dragon fan fics but I love this movie as well. Hope you enjoy!
Some may wonder why Sarah paid no heed to Jareth, after all he was the goblin king. It was not the fact he was not pretty enough, though Sarah might not have been mature enough to notice. It was not that he could not provide what she needed, after all he did give her all she wished for. Perhaps it was the fact that he did not know how to love. Growing up in a world with only small goblins as teachers, as tutors, as parents, and as guardians there is not much to be known except pleasure and mischief.
And to all those who respect age boundaries, she was only fifteen. Old enough to understand the difference but young enough to play a girl. He knew that as well, yet he took a chance, and wore his heart on his sleeve, but to no avail. Like how Rome was not built on a day, it takes more then a few hours to learn the honesty of ones feelings. He let her go just as promised, but he checked on her from time to time making sure things were alright. He didn't tell her of course since she would think him to be spying, but once day he will.
When she has grown, and gives allowance to love that would be when he will try again. Time, he had loads of it, perhaps even forever. But he will wait, he will wait since she was the babe with the power and only she could summon him with it.
At home, Sarah put away items of her past, and things that reminded her of her mother, even the play of Labyrinth which she loved so much in the drawer, but she left the Jareth statue alone. She didn't know why, but it amused her in a delightful way. He may have gave her some trouble, even annoyed her a bit, but she did not hate him. How it all ended, how she handled the situation was all in all it was enjoyable, and she learned that things are not always as they seem.
Maybe he was not like he seemed either, maybe there was more then glittering eyeshadow and tight pants. Jareth, the name had a nice ring to it she thought. When the world falls down, Jareth will be there the whole time through was what he promised right? The heart does not need reason, it feeds on kindness which can never be forgotten. The loudness of her anxious heart might have been good reason to call him back but before she could think more deeply on the subject, her parents called her down to talk.
Holding in a deep breath, she let it go and proceeded with her life. It might not have been the time yet, perhaps someday she would learn how to love properly and live in a world made new with all her friends and see that true beauty is not skin deep, but might be in the heart of an odd goblin king named Jereth.
