"A Season For Dreaming"
Summary: A short, poetic bit of prose inspired by the onset of spring in the South. The Pevensies dream of Narnia.
Author's Note/Disclaimer: I don't own anything, except one very prolific growth of wisteria.
In the spring, when the dogwoods and the wisteria and the tulip trees began to bloom, Lucy dreamed of Narnia. She dreamed of fauns and satyrs and of merpeople. She dreamed of dancing trees and talking animals. She dreamed of long walks in the green woods and of a lost handkerchief. She dreamed of Aslan and his golden fur and smiled in her sleep.
In the summer, when the sun burned its warmest and school was forgotten in favor of games and lazy afternoons, Susan dreamed of Narnia. She dreamed of gleaming silks and pale gossamer and stolen kisses under the moonlight. She dreamed of soft music and royal parties. She dreamed of sunlight glistening on ivory tower spires and the sound of silver trumpets. She dreamed of a prince and his gifts and sighed in her sleep.
In the autumn, when the year began to wane and the days grew shorter and the first frost appeared, Edmund dreamed of Narnia. He dreamed of ships and the sea and the promise of a vast horizon. He dreamed of brilliant feasts and splendid tournaments. He dreamed of heated chess matches by the fire and of that last terrible winter. He dreamed of the White Witch and her sword and shivered in his sleep.
In the winter, at the end of all things, when the earth grew hard and cold and in the wildernesses of the world the wolves began to howl, Peter dreamed of Narnia. He dreamed of bright swords and glorious battles and victory after victory won in the name of the Lion. He dreamed of four golden thrones and a magnificent castle. He dreamed of a land finally at peace and realizing that he was home. He dreamed of a king and his kingdom and wept in his sleep.
