When Luna was a toddler, her mother used to be the only one who could keep up with her when she got going. Luna had been quite energetic...
When they spent time outdoors, they'd make crowns with daisies sometimes. Luna always would create her own crowns and compare them to those her mum made. She was quite adorable when she did that...
Luna had grown into quite the curious child, just like her mum. Ready to learn and try things. Always keeping an open mind to new discoveries. She liked to watch him work with the Quibbler and her mother as she did her research and crafted new spells and potions.
She'd have been a shoe-in for Ravenclaw with a mind like that, but her mum hadn't lived to see her get Sorted, perishing in an attempt to invent a new spell, which backfired on her.
He hadn't been present when it happened, but Luna was. He'd first heard the loud bang of the spell, then it went silent for a few moments as he rushed to that part of the house to see what had happened.
Part of the room had blown out and as he entered, his wife lay on the floor; her eyes not seeing as Luna, only nine years old, sobbed over her mother's body.
The remarkable, intelligent witch his wife had been... He'd do whatever it took to raise Luna and perhaps she'd grow up to be just like her mum.
When Luna reached Hogwarts, she'd been sorted into Ravenclaw, just like her parents. Her mum would have been proud- even if she wasn't a Ravenclaw...
Her years there were well spent. She got excellent grades and though she only seemed to have one friend in Ginny Weasley, it seemed good enough.
The end of her fourth year came and she was alongside Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley among others, fighting Death Eaters.
She really had grown up to become a remarkable witch...
When the Death Eaters came to his home one December morning he felt true fear for the first time ever.
"The Dark Lord doesn't like what you've been printing in your rag about Harry Potter..." one sneered.
"We've got your daughter imprisoned somewhere. Print what the Dark Lord wants instead and perhaps you'll see your precious daughter again..."
Never before had Xenophilius Lovegood backed down from saying what he'd believed in. He'd always taught Luna to be the same. But this... This was different.
His Luna. His precious Luna. He had to get her back. She was all he had to live for now. He would do anything.
Whatever it takes to have her home again.
