Hello, Beautiful
A/N: Another Nick and Judy one-shot. Enjoy!
As the sun shone through the window of the bedroom, Nick sat up, and stretched his arms. "Another day of serving and protecting the citizens of Zootopia," he muttered to himself. He looked to the right of him, and saw Judy sleeping softly. Nick leaned forward, and gently kissed her on the cheek. They didn't get back in until really late last night. Both of them had responded to a domestic abuse case involving two wolves. It ended with the two of them having to take one of the wolves in for assault and battery.
By the time they finished booking him, it was already 2:00 AM. Upon returning home, Judy didn't even bother changing clothes. She walked into their bedroom, and fell onto the bed. Nick quickly followed suit. Even though they had to be at the station within the next hour, Nick didn't have the heart to wake Judy. She was tired, and clearly needed rest. I'll tell Chief Bogo that she wasn't feeling well, he thought. Nick looked at the photograph of the two of them sitting on the nightstand. It was a photo of them together on their wedding day. Come next September they will have been married for three years.
They were partners in more ways than one. On the job, and off the job. Nick looked at the photo with pride. He remembered that day like it was yesterday. The wedding took place in Zootopia Central Park. Judy's entire family were in attendance; even all of her siblings! Judy looked so beautiful that day with her grey fur, and violet eyes shining in the sunlight. He remembered how he felt when he said "I do" and promised himself to her forever. With Judy, he knew that he would have a lifetime of happiness. She brought out the best in him, and for that he was forever grateful. Judy opened his eyes to how wrong he was, and that there was good within him. He didn't think he could ever truly repay her for that, but if he could spend the rest of his life letting her know how much she means to him, that was good enough. The alarm suddenly went off, and Nick quickly silenced it, but it was too late. Judy slowly opened her eyes, and saw him standing by her bedside.
"Hello there," she said, smiling.
"Hello, beautiful," Nick said, smiling in return. "Go back to sleep. You deserve a day's rest."
Judy sat up in bed, and rubbed her eyes. "I can't just take the day off. I have a duty to perform."
"You're tired. You need the rest. I'll take care of things today," Nick promised.
"How are you going to manage without your partner by your side?" Judy asked.
"It'll be tough, but I think I'll manage." Nick wrapped his arms around Judy, and pulled her into a tender kiss.
"I love you," Nick whispered in her ear.
"I love you too," Judy said.
"Now get some sleep. I'm sure Zootopia will be alright with you taking the day off."
Judy laughed, and snuggled back under the covers. "Thank you, Nick."
"Anytime, Carrots."
Nick got dressed into his police uniform, and quietly shut the door behind him. When he arrived at the police station, he went straight to his office to fill out some paperwork. On the desk in front of him was another picture of him and Judy. This one was from their first day on the job together as partners. Nick picked up the picture, and smiled at it.
"Hello, Beautiful," he said.
