The night time sky was filled with twinkling stars, making the dark sky a little brighter. Wearing plaid green pajamas, 5 year old Alphonse Elric followed his 6 year old brother Edward Elric across a dirt path leading to a field. Al's short golden hair was a little messed up from taking naps on the couch all day; he didn't want to be in his room while his big brother was in the living room.
Edward didn't like his little brother to be cooped up all day with a stupid cold, so once Al's temperature was down Ed decided to show Al a special field that's been said to be mating grounds for fireflies. Alphonse never has seen fireflies since he was just an infant, so Ed wanted to make tonight a special one.
"Brother, when will we get there?" Alphonse asked as they started crossing into the field. It was in the middle of fall so the nights get colder then mornings, which doesn't make it any better for Al even if he is wearing a coat.
"We're almost there," Edward answered with a grin, his golden eyes on the target; the middle of the field. The field was far from their house so he was able to go this far out with his brother.
Soon the brothers were in the middle of the field, the moon illuminating the area making it less dark then it was. Peering around, Alphonse let out a surprised gasp as small balls of light started crawling up strands of grass around them, causing him to hind behind his older brother. Ed laughed softly, laying an index finger on one of the grass blades and letting the firefly crawl onto it.
Edward turned around to face his brother. "See? They won't hurt you," he explains, placing the firefly onto his nose.
"It tickles!" Al exclaims with a giggle, feeling the small creature crawl half way up his nose before taking off into the sky. Soon all of the other fireflies joined it and flew up into the sky, lighting the night up with bright yellow lights.
"There beautiful, brother!" Alphonse said his eyes bright with excitement before throwing himself at Ed, wrapping his arms around him a big hug. "Thank you!"
Ed smiled down at Al as he hugged him back. He couldn't get over at how happy Al was; he'd do anything to make his baby brother smile like this every day. "That's the magic of fireflies, Al. They shine just as bright as you."
