o1. once upon a time
It was a typical storybook romance.
When they first met, he knew she was the princess, even under the layers of dirt and grime. Past the vicious snarl on her chapped lips and through the eyes narrowed in such an ugly way, he decided she was the damsel. Of course, the only distress she was in was because he was there and thus he was the villain.
Who was the hero?
Later, after fights upon fights, some verbal and some even physical, he came to realize that there was no hero. She beat him in every argument without fail and he was forced to rethink his previous declaration. Princesses were beautiful and elegant and most certainly not as feral as this wild child before him. Perhaps she was not one after all.
So where did that leave her?
She was the heroine. He was still the villain.
In many fairytales that meant they were never to be.
And it hurt.
