Kiss The Sea, Kiss The Sky

"And when the day arrives, I'll become the sky and I'll become the sea
And the sea will come to kiss me, for I am going home.
Nothing can stop me now."-La Mer

Pink, it was love at first sight

Ino saw the girl crying, and she liked her hair. She wanted to be friends with her, cheer her up. Her hair reminded her of sunset: the soft, cherry sky outlined in golden thread. Like her hair, too- gold and pink went together well. That was the logic she used to convince herself to befriend her, because the sunset was very pretty; the girl—Sakura—was very pretty, too. So that meant they had to be friends. She would outline Sakura, protect her, and Sakura would permeate her life, their friendship, with her softness. The pink strands were soft as her hands shifted them out of the way with the headband, and the two girls smiled as their friendship was cemented.

Pink, when I turn out the light

The blonde pre-teen was back in her room. Sakura had told her they could no longer be friends; they were rivals. Ino was in shock until she came back to her room that night. She sat on her bed and just stared at the blanket in front of her. She stared until the night fell, surpassing the gray sunset. The clouds blocked the vibrant colors, the pink and the gold that day. She couldn't tell Sakura who she really liked, who made her heart race and her palms sweat and her body aware; no, she had lied instead. She was a coward. Ino sat in the dark, before getting up to turn on the light- but it only made her see pink. Her quilt was pink. She slowly, shakily, reached to turn off the light again before lapsing into a fitful sleep.

I want to be your lover

She wanted to make Sakura jealous. She wanted to have Sasuke like her so Sakura would give up, but the pink-haired kunoichi was adamant. The flowers at the hospital went unnoticed, but the one she left on Sakura's windowsill did not.

It was a pink carnation.

Pink, on the lips of your lover

Sasuke had left Konoha and Sakura was in pieces. Ino comforted her estranged, jade-eyed friend. The rivalry had faded into the background as they grew and matured together, learned from their sensei and Hokage, Tusnade. They still competed to be the best, but it was no longer as fierce as it once was. Their friendship was stronger, magnetizing, as they grew closer to one another. Ino took a chance, because Naruto had left as well and it also hurt Sakura, but she made sure that Sakura was not vulnerable. She would not hurt her like they had. To her surprise, her hair was as soft as she remembered; the distant memory of tying those pink strands back came to the forefront of her mind and was second only to Sakura's lips.

Pink, is the love you discover

There was slight hesitation at first, as well as embarrassment. Their relationship was slow, secret and shy, but the heat was there, and pink and gold came together once more in a fiery, ethereal sunset.

And I think that everything is going to be all right

No matter what we do tonight
