She-Man. 1

I sat on the bed across from my brother, scowling, as I made sure that I had packed everything I needed into my suitcase.

My name is Samantha McSmith. But don't even think about calling me Samantha. The name is Sam.

I am going to Ms. Kelly's Camp for Girls, a juvenile delinquent camp. I'm not going to try and waste my time telling you that I'm innocent. I'm not. I got busted by the cops for breaking and entering, and for shoplifting.

It took them three years to catch me.

"I can't believe that you're actually going." My brother, John, looked up at me. We exchanged glances. "I never thought you'd get caught."

I rolled my eyes. "If the owner of the store went home, like every other normal citizen, then I wouldn't have gotten caught." I spat at him, the rage in my voice accelerating. I continued to check my bag.

"You know, I doubt the girl's camp will hold you," John leaned his head against the wall. "You should be going to Camp Greenlake- that would've been the perfect place for you." His voice held some confidence in it that made me want to listen to what he was saying, to hear more.

I paused and cocked my head toward him. "What?"

"Remember that delinquent camp I went to for school last year? That was Camp Greenlake. An all-boys camp. They dig holes. Lame, but it's better than going to some 'Ms. Etiquette for bad girls camp'."

I smirked. "You know, that's not such a bad idea." I stood up and drummed my black-painted fingernails on a nearby desk. "How does one…transport…oneself to this 'Camp Greenlake'?"

"Once you're…enrolled I'll call it, they send a bus to pick you up." He paused, thinking, and then instantly shot up. "You're not thinking about running away to Greenlake, are you?"

I let out a devious smile. "Of course I am. A girl can think anything she wants to."

"Which is exactly the problem…you're a girl." His eyes were wide.

I raised my eyebrows. "Oh Johnny, Johnny, Johnny. That's only a loophole. A loophole that's very easy to surpass. All I need is your help and…" I snapped my fingers. "I'll be on the bus to Greenlake, as Sam McSmith, newest member of the male population."

John shook his head. "Are you crazy? You will never be able to make people believe that you're a dude! And just how, exactly, are you supposed to get registered?"

"That's where you come in." I paced slowly. "My little computer genius." I shot him a stare. "You have access to the state's computer- you work at the state house don't you? Send an e-mail…or whatever it is that you do…to Greenlake, enter my file onto their computer system, and BAM…you're done."

"You want me to risk my job…not to mention going to jail…so that you can go to camp with a bunch of guys?"

I slapped my hands down on the bed and got in my brother's face, making strong eye contact. "Do you even care about me?" I threw at him harshly. "You know just as well as I do that I will break at Camp Kelly. Do you want that to happen?" He turned away, but I just got right back into his face. "DO YOU?" I asked, screaming this time.

My reply came seconds later, with my brother's head hung low. "No." He muttered quietly, barely audible. I backed up.

I picked up a pair of scissors as I walked over to the mirror. I held my wavy, three-inches-below-the-shoulder, sparkling, blonde hair. "Me neither." I said, snipping off the golden locks for good.

A short chapter, but you know what the main point of this story is. And if you don't it's about a girl impersonating a guy at Camp Greenlake. Next one shall be longer. Wow I sounded like someone from the Renissance. That's pretty cool.

And In Case You Care...

DISCLAIMER: I do not own Holes. But I own Sam! And that's good enough.
