Hagrid scratched his newest pet behind the ears, or at least where he guessed they should be. Petra didn't move, though her bright googly eyes watched him wherever he moved. She'd been quiet since they'd gotten home, and seemed content to relax.
Not all pets had to be exciting, Hagrid told himself. He just wanted a friend. He missed Aragog something fierce, but exciting pets had cost him too much already. When he'd seen the sign advertising pet rocks in a shop window, he'd known it was the perfect solution. A nice, quiet Muggle pet was just what he needed. Petra'd keep him company during the lonely night, while Aragog roamed the forest, free.
