Sara Sidle walked past the playground as the students played. Holding the books in her hands and not a bag. She had no friends and the only one she talked to was her teachers.

She walks to school with the lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holdin' back
Wearin' the same dress she wore yesterday
She hides the bruises with linen and lace

The bruises of her parents anger were under her sleeves and jeans, the black eye to show for it. Her teachers never asked how she developed each bruise, she often told her parents she wanted to never be born, they said they wish she hadn't been.

Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel

1983, Tamales Bay

Sara watched as her mother murdered her father, too late for her, the damage was already done. Her soul was broken, the police took her mother away and her mother took her father. The abuse had stopped but she would never forget.

Somebody cries in the middle of the night
The neighbors hear, but they turn out the lights
A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate
When morning comes it'll be too late

In the homes, she felt left out, her dreams of a new loving family was gone. She lived with more children then two parents could handle. Her life became books and school. Each time they would yell at her, she would never cry or wimper, just take the insults from the other children and the many foster parents she had.

Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel

2007, Las Vegas

Her life is now complete, she looks at the stone and smiles. She is happy, free to be loved and not abandoned. Her broken heart had been forgotten by the world but not her boyfriend nor her friends.

A statue stands in a shaded place
An angel girl with an upturned face
A name is written on a polished rock
A broken heart that the world forgot

Everything that has hurt her, she doesn't let it be her life. She lets her dreams fly and she is loved completely.
