ENJOY THE STORY
She looked at the figure sleeping in front of her; little arms wrapped around a stuffed deer's neck her chest moving up and down slowly a smile gracing her lips. Carefully she lifted a blanket over the child and stroked her chestnut brown hair. A ghost of smile on her lips, as she hummed a small melody which her mother had sung for her, her grandmother had sung to her mother before. It was ancient song about a female warrior who falls in love with a man and their journey to be together. The women laughed slightly as she continued to hum the tune and stroke the girl's hair.
She remembered when he had heard her singing the song to herself as the sun was setting years ago and had asked about it. She had told him that it was Lullaby about a girl who had fallen in love with a boy and how they were from different villages at war. She remembered him laughing at her and how she glared. His brown eyes stared into hers when he asked how it ended. She told him they stopped the war between the two, by marrying each other & sealing the two villages together.
He looked at her and simply smiled telling her it was a beautiful story. She laughed slightly well it was a true story supposedly. My mother had told me it before she passed away She told him her voice had been no louder than a whisper. He smile faded and he had pulled her into a tight hug as tears graced her eyes for the first time in years. It's alright he had whispered to her stroking her head. That had been the spark that started their relationship. It was all because of that old song with the beautiful but almost haunting tune. She continued to hum the tune and it slowly came to an end. The child was sleeping blissfully, in the small wooden cradle. A soft knock came from the door as she turn to see the man his chestnut brown hair down, a soft smile on his lips. "Are you alright?" He asked.
She smiled back "Yes because the story will continue."
He walked across the small room and pulled her into a hug. "Come on let's go to bed while she's asleep, alright?"
She nodded and kissed him lightly on the lips, her fingers intertwined with his as they walked to their bedroom. They lay in the bed his arms wrapped around her with her head lying in the crook of his neck. She closed her eyes placing her hands over top of his and started to hum the tune again. Slowly she drifted to sleep.
"Good night Temari." He whispered softly, kissing the top of her head.
"Good night Shika." She whispered back squeezing his hand tight before falling asleep with a ghost of a smile on her lips.
