The sunset.
How he resented that sunset. The light was disappearing so fast, painting the sky red.
Red.
It leaked onto the clouds, dusting everything with a pink glow. But that didn't make the red seeping from his side any prettier.
Pretty.
How much he had abused that word. Everything was pretty, was beautiful, was magnifico. The sun continued to fall in the sky, as did tears down his cheeks as he willed the sun to stay up. Once it was gone he would never see it again.
Never.
Never again would he taste another bite of pasta, never again would he surrender. Never again would he see Japan, or his brother, or his Germany.
Germany.
Germany…
"GERMANY!"
He let out a strangled cry to the world around him. With that he collapsed, clutching his side. The red stain blossoming from the bullet wound grew; a carnation unfolding its petals.
"Damn, damn, damn," He murmured, sobbing into the lush grass of the hill. "What I wouldn't give to have you here, Germany, I wish you were here… I wish you were here so I could say good bye, I wish I was here so I could say I'm so sorry…"
He coughed roughly, spitting up blood. His racking coughs muffled out the sound of quickly approaching footsteps.
"I…I wish Germany was here so I could tell him…" He caught one last glimpse of the world before his sight died; one last glimpse of the icy blue eyes of his Germany. He felt strong arms scoop him up, beginning to rush him away.
"I'm so happy my Germany is here," he croaked, "S-so I could tell him…" His voice faded, as did his breathing, and the beating of the heart that Germany had tried so hard to protect began to slow.
"Italy? Italy? ITALY!" Germany dropped to his knees, desperately searching for a pulse. "Italy…" he whispered, tears streaking down his face. "Tell me what…?"
