Katniss Everdeen stumbled through the woods, smacking into trees and other forestry along the way. Having just been stung by trackerjackers, it wasn't hard to understand the reasoning behind her staggered steps.
Powerful illusions and hallucinations are often the result of trackerjacker stings. She recalled briefly as a giant pumpkin with legs clambered by. Katniss tripped over a tree-root that she had seemed to think was a slithering worm and landed flat on her face. Groaning and clutching her head she looked up.
What she saw before her was like nothing she had ever seen in her life.
The man- if you could even call him that- was a mammoth of a being. He was about twice as tall as an average man and three times as wide, with a long mane of shaggy black hair and a beard that covered most of his face. His hands were as big as dustbin lids and his feet in their boots were like baby dolphins. He had light skin and dark eyes that glinted like black beetles. He wore an exceptionally large mole-skin coat and held a pink umbrella. If Katniss hadn't been scared beyond belief she would've probably asked him what he was thinking carrying it around.
"Who are you?" She stammered, trying to clamber to her feet.
"Rubeus Hagrid keeper o' the keys an' grounds at Hogwarts, o' course. Who else?" The enormous man stated, giving her a good hard look.
"Oh. Silly me." Katniss said sarcastically from her perch on the ground. "Now what exactly are you doing here?" Hagrid scratched his head.
"Takin' yer to Hogwarts o' course. You are a wizard after all." He said as casually as most people would discuss the weather. Katniss shook her head wondering exactly how hard she had fallen.
"Ecuse me? I'm a what?" She asked completely confused.
"Yer a wizard Katniss." He said nodding slowly, as if used to repeating the statement.
"If I'm a wizard you're half-giant." She groaned, wishing that hallucinations didn't talk so much. Hagrid blinked a few times again slightly confused.
"But I am half-giant."
"Well that's great for you Rueben-Hair-Grit…"
"Rubeus Hagrid." He corrected.
"Whatever your name is! Now if you'll excuse me I believe I'm being pulled towards unconsciousness." She snapped.
"Well a'right then. But I'm not sure what the headmaster's gonna have to say 'bout this one." The half-giant said sounding slightly disappointed.
Katniss pushed the vision of him out of her mind and pressed her face into the layer of dead leaves on the ground, allowing small and hopefully imaginary ants to cover her eyes and escort her to unconsciousness. When she awoke she silently wondered how in Panem she had conjured up such an out-of-this-world illusion.
