A/N: Just a short drabble that came to me. For Shelke and Vincent/Lucrecia. There is no where enough stuff for any of them. Maybe spoilers for Dirge of Cerberus. Enjoy!

Only Her in My Eyes

There were times he saw a faint glimpse of her behind Shelke's ageless eyes, and it made his heart race. She had warned him it would happen- it tended to be so after she dived into the network and merged her spirit with the memories of others. Parts and pieces of them always seemed to linger on inside her long after. But Lucrecia's seemed particularly cemented within her, and it made Shelke uneasy.

Not that she didn't admire and appreciate the woman's spirit and bravery. If she were still alive, perhaps they could have been friends. No, what troubled her about this fragment of memory inside her was the way it affected Vincent.

Sometimes she could see that certain flash in his crimson eyes as he peered into her sapphire, seeing her, and yet not at the same time. It wasn't her he wanted to see at those times. It was the memory of Lucrecia she possessed inside of her. The woman he loved more than life itself. Instead of short cinnamon colored hair, she knew he longed to see long chestnut, darker eyes instead of her pale sky eyes.

That hurt. It always did, no matter how many times it occurred. But having to conceal her emotions for so long made it easy for Shelke to hide the pain from him. It still lingered though, eating away at her, causing tears when she was alone.

It seems she is forever doomed to receive this reaction from Vincent. Is this all she is to him anymore, an avatar for the spirit of his long dead love? Will he never again look at her and see only her, or will he always be watching for that hint of Lucrecia within?

Oh how she hates the thought of that, her first true friend never seeing the real her again, always hoping to see someone else when he looks into her eyes. It's enough to make Shelke hate them both. She wishes she could claw apart her insides until it's only her memories and spirit inside her skin. But she cannot. She can only wait and hope, praying for Lucrecia to fade back to the Lifestream, or for Vincent to once again see only her. But for now, he will only see her in Shelke's eyes.
