Prologue

Horns rang out loudly as Lori Taylor gleefully cut across three lanes of interstate traffic, the thrill of finally having a car, and being on her way back to her friends, overwhelming her normally sensible nature.

She reached to the radio, changing to her favorite station even as her cell phone rang. 'Good lord, can I not have five minutes when somebody doesn't have access to me?' Lori thought impatiently, reaching for her phone. Her eyes were only off of the road for the briefest second…and that one second was all that was needed for a car from the other side of the median to come shooting across to her side, and strike her new car, knocking the girl out.
