There they sat on the deck of the Going Merry, Nami sunbathing, while Luffy sat cross legged on the floor next to him. He looked up at her with that goofy grin of his, which distracted her from her current train of thought.
"What?" She said looking down at him. He just kept smiling up at her, making her cheeks tint a slight pink. She truly loved that smile of his, and despite his naïve nature, she knew that deep down she was in love with her captain. The man who had saved her countless times, who never once doubted her despite the nasty things she had done. She knew that he understood. She knew that she could never repay him for her freedom, and she would spend her life trying to.
"You know, Nami, I was thinking. About what will happen to all of us when we finally make it to the Grand Line, when we finally find the One Piece," he said happily.
"Well why do you look so damn happy about it? Don't you think that once everyone accomplishes their dreams they'll leave in search of new ones?" She asked him with a raised eyebrow.
"No, we've all been through so much together, that I know after we find the One Piece and I become King of the Pirates, we'll all set out for new dreams together. We're nakama, Nami, all of us. Which means it's all of us, or none of us. There's no way we'll ever be without each other," he replied with a grin that if it could have been any bigger, it would have cracked his face. She looked at him in disbelief, before breaking out into a grin herself.
"You're always so optimistic, Luffy. We need more people like you in the world," she gave him a genuine smile, one reserved specifically for him. He knew it, she knew that he knew, but neither of them bothered to bring it up.
"Well, Nami, there was something I've been meaning to ask you," his attitude suddenly changed as he became more reserved, looking more at the ground then in her eyes. She became nervous.
"Sure," she said. "What's up?"
"Well, I've been thinking a lot lately, and I wanted to ask you to be my Pirate Queen when I become King of the Pirates," he said rubbing the back of his head nervously. Her mouth dropped open in shock. "Well I just figured it would help you with all your treasure gathering and mapping the world and all. Plus, being Pirate King wouldn't mean anything if you weren't there to share it with me," he continued shyly. She smiled gently, and leaned over to give him a peck on the check.
"I would love to, Luffy. But does this mean in some weird way you're asking me to marry you?" Nami asked him. He looked down, a look of concentration on his face.
"If we get married, that means we have to stay together forever, right?" She nodded, so he continued. "Then yes." He said smiling at her again. She giggled.
"You're one of the strangest people I've ever met, Luffy. I would love to be your Pirate Queen and your wife," she told him as she gave him a quick kiss on the lips. When she pulled a way, she noticed a look in Luffy's charcoal eyes, it was a look of pure bliss.
"If being married means that happens more, we should get married as soon as possible!" He yelled with excitement, before settling on the chair next to Nami and wrapping his arms around her.
If you were my king…..
