It's a Monday evening. Cosima stares quietly out of her bedroom window. Delphine, her best friend since she was eight, sits on her crimson colored sheets next to her. Delphine breaks the silence, "Cosima. It's okay." Her words aren't met with any reply or change in movement in the other girl. "Cosima." Delphine taps Cosima's shoulder. "Talk to me. Please."
Cosima sighs and faces her best friend. "I didn't want you to find out like this." She shifts uncomfortably, focusing on her finger nails more than the usual person would. "I'm not sure if I wanted you to find out at all, honestly. You're straight, I know. It's like one of those well known facts, yknow? The sky is blue, PhD students never get sleep, the grass is green...yada yada yada. Whatever. It's cool, obvs." Cosima looks down at her crossed legs in silence. "Your boyfriend Danny's a cool guy. I'm totes not jealous." Cosima laughs. "I didn't mean for that to sound so sarcastic, I'm sorry. I'm kinda...always making mistakes so yknow I'm kinda always sorry. Wow, Cosima, great time to ramble, when your best friend is finding out your feelings for her. A+" Cosima smiles nervously, trying to hide the fear behind her eyes.
She looks Delphine in the eye for the first time in ten minutes. More silence. Delphine looks at Cosima, not saying anything for a moment, making Cosima grow more and more nervous. Then the blonde laughs. A loud snorting laugh that fills Cosima's bedroom. Cosima glares at her best friend and also crush, "Don't be a bitch. It isn't funny." Delphine snorts again before explaining, "Non, Non, Cosima you've got it-you've got it all...wrong, actually."
Delphine reaches for Cosima's hand and intertwines their fingers. Cosima's hand is a little sweaty, probably from her revelation, but Delphine doesn't mind.
"I broke up with Danny a month ago, Cosima." Cosima looks up at her in confusion. "Why? Delphine, that boy was perfect for you-he had the looks, the smile, the popularity? Your parents approval? He could give you anything you ever wanted. Why would you ever want to break up with him?" Cosima babbles on and on about how Danny's charm was irresistible and how his abs, damn, she couldn't blame her for dating that boy. Delphine stops Cosima's world as she reaches down, pulling Cosima's face to hers. Their lips touch for a second before Cosima snaps back to reality. "Whoa, whoa, whoa. What? That was hella unexpected, man. Not unwanted but yknow...unexpected." Delphine laughs and kisses Cosima's knuckles. "You're right. Danny could give me anything I wanted. Well...almost anything. But he couldn't give me you."
