Chapter 1: For Every Yin There Is a Yang
Kirara watched as Kyuzo buttoned the last button on his coat. He had saved her life and she was thankful. Unfortunately, not thankful enough to trust him, but enough to sew his coat. "I hope I didn't ruin it." She said under her breath. She thought that he wouldn't hear her. "It's fine." He said. As she began to make her way to the others, she stopped and realized that he wasn't following behind her. "Kyuzo?" she called. She turned and saw that he was sitting on a rock watching the sunset. Mustering all the courage within her, she walked over to him. "Kyuzo, are you alright?" She gasped as she saw why he refused to follow her. In the dirt, the blonde samurai had absent mindedly wrote "lonely". Within seconds, he got rid of the evidence. "Are you lonely, Great Kyuzo? Is that it?" She hadn't expected him to answer, but of course, she was wrong. "No." came his answer with a hint of finality in it. "Alright then. But remember that for every Yang, there is a Yin." And she took her leave.
It wasn't that he ignored her. He was merely pondering what she had said. 'For every Yang there is a Yin? What's that supposed to mean?' he thought. Before he had a chance to fully consider what she meant, a certain loud-mouthed samurai was calling his name. "HEY KYUZO! COME ON! WE'RE LEAVING NOW!" Sighing, Kyuzo took one last look at the sunset and began walking toward the others. 'Am I really lonely? Have I always been that way?' Firmly shaking his head, he fought off those thoughts with new ones. 'No, I am samurai. I should be accustomed to these feelings and should not let them bother me.' Realizing he had arrived at the location of the team, he tuned into the conversation. "There's still some sunlight left. Maybe we could cross the forest by nightfall." suggested Heihachi. "That would be a pretty big risk. Who knows what's lurking in there." Shichiroji argued. "Unfortunately, Heihachi is correct. We are limited on time. Though the risks are high, staying out in the open is an even more dangerous." Kambei explained. "Alright, let's go then." Gorobei said. And off they went into the Forest of Death.
