"Kira and Trent sitting in a tree . . . k-i-s-s-i--"

"Ethan!" Kira's cheeks flushed crimson and she covered her face in embarrassment. "Knock it off!"

"Yeah," Conner added, coming to Kira's rescue, "don't tease her."

Surprised, Kira peeked between her fingers and looked at Conner with slow gratitude. "Thanks, Conner!" After that being said, she turned a glare to Ethan, "Listen to Conner."

"I do know what's best," Conner agreed, smugly, and ignored Ethan's suspicious look.

"Where's Doctor O?" Ethan asked. Conner blinked at the sudden change of topic and shrugged.

"I dunno, man. Maybe he's off somewhere with Hayley?"

"Off with Hayley?" Ethan repeated, puzzled.

"You need to get out more," Conner grumbled, "but dude, he's so into her. Like if he was bread, she'd be cheese sauce."

Kira raised an eyebrow at him. "That made no sense."

"You two are so lame. Bread, like French bread, is dipped into cheese sauce. You can't have one without the other. Hence, bread with cheese sauce. Also known as Tommy-and-Hayley."

"You know," Ethan mused, "that kinda made sense, in a warped and freaky way."

"Really freaky," Kira agreed, looking amused.

"Hey guys, here's your drinks." Trent appeared at Kira's right and she turned in the chair, smiling up at him. She noticed his matching grin and she leaned back in her chair, satisfied.

"Thanks," Kira said for everyone, and helped Trent pass out cups of soda and her apple juice.

"Are you playing tonight?" Trent asked. Kira shook her head and Trent looked curiously at her. "Why not?"

"I don't know," Kira returned, "just nothing new to perform."

"She's lovesick," Conner interjected, matter-of-factly. "And she isn't in the mood to embarrass herself in front of you right now."

"Conner!" Kira cried.

"Ah ha!" Ethan crowed, "I knew you wouldn't have saved her without a reason."

"She's just too easy," Conner admitted.

"And pretty," Trent quietly interjected, "and brilliant. And talented . . ."

"Maybe Kira isn't the only one lovesick," Conner shook his head in dismay.

Kira turned surprised eyes to Trent. "You really think that?"

"That and more," he swore. He ignored Conner's fake gagging and concentrated on his girlfriend. "You want to go get something to eat with me tonight? I'm off in twenty minutes, and unless we have Ranger stuff to do . . ."

"She's free, actually," Tommy commented, coming up behind Conner and Ethan. He flashed Kira and Trent a knowing look, before clapping Conner and Ethan on their shoulders. Hayley trailed in behind him, watching the scene with interest, but she didn't say anything, just waved a hello. "These two, and me, have a date with training. But you can miss yours," Tommy smirked, "just this once."

"We have to train but Kira gets to go suck his face?!" Conner looked outraged. "That's so unfair."

"You can suck Ethan's if you want," Tommy offered. Conner rolled his eyes disgustedly. "I thought as much."

"Hey! I wouldn't suck his face if it was the last face on Earth," Ethan added, when he realized he was the center of their conversation. "Well, maybe his before Cassidy or Devin, or something . . ."

"Thanks, I think," Conner replied, dryly. "Good to know where I rank."

"Don't mention it."

"Well," Trent said after a moment, "as fun as this conversation is, I better go finish my shift so I can leave. See you in a bit," Trent kissed Kira's cheek, and was gone before she could respond.

Silence reigned over the table.

"Kira and Trent, sitting in a tree--"

"--K-i-s-s-i-n-g . . ."

"You guys!"

Some things never changed.
