Another request from tate310, this time it's "Gordon Takes a Dip" from Season 1. Enjoy and comment.

Gordon was resting at a siding.

"Sometimes." he thought, "it's really tiring to be a large and splendid engine. One does have to be on time."

Henry puffed in.

"Peep peep peep! Hello lazybones!" he whistled.

"That Henry is too big for his wheels!" muttered Gordon. "Fancy speaking to me like that! I've never had an accident, unlike Henry, who came off the rails!"

"Do jammed whistles and burst safety valves count as accidents?" asked Percy.

"No indeed! Those are malfunctions! Is it decent? Is is right?"

Percy heard Gordon' remark and he knew that it wasn't true.

Sometimes, James and Henry helped Gordon by taking the Express. The next day, it was Henry's turn. Gordon watched him getting ready.

"Be careful Henry! You're pulling the Express, not the Kipper! Hope you stay on the rails!"

Henry went off in a huff, and Gordon went back to sleep, but not for long. His driver and fireman woke him up a few minutes later.

"Wake up Gordon!" said the driver. "We've been asked to pull a special train!"

"Is it coaches or freight cars!"

"Cars!" said the driver.

"Cars! I hate freight cars!"

Gordon' fire was slow to start, so Edward had to help push Gordon to the turntable.

"I won't go! I hate freight cars!" grumbled Gordon.

"Don't be silly, don't be silly!" puffed Edward.

At last, they approached the turntable. Gordon' fire was now burning nicely, and making steam, so Edward was uncoupled and backed away to shunt in the yard. Gordon was cross and didn't care.

"I'll show them! I'll show them!" he hissed.

He moved slowly forward to try to jam the turntable, but he couldn't stop in time and slithered into a ditch!

"WHOOSH!" he hissed. "Get me out, get me out!"

"Not a hope!" said his driver and fireman. "You're stuck you silly great engine, don't you understand that?"

"Yes." said Gordon sadly

They telephoned Sir Topham Hatt.

"So Gordon wouldn't take the special train and ran into a ditch? What that's you say? The special's waiting? According to my timetable, Edward's shunting in the yard right now. Tell him to take it, please. And Gordon? Leave him where he is, we don't have time to rescue him now."

Meanwhile, on the other side of the ditch, some little boys were chattering.

"Doesn't he look silly? They'll never get him out."

They began to sing.

"Silly old Gordon fell in a ditch, fell in a ditch, fell in a ditch. Silly old Gordon fell in a ditch. All on a Monday morning!"

Gordon laid in the ditch all day.

"Oh dear." he thought, "I shall never get out."

That night, the breakdown train arrived to rescue Gordon from the ditch.

James was helping with the operation too. He was pulling hard, while his driver was watching.

"Steady old boy!" he warned. "We mustn't pull too hard now."

James kept on pulling as hard as he could, managing to bring his friend to safety!

Later that night, Gordon came home, a sadder and wiser engine.
