Amber, Emerald, and…
His anxious amber eyes scanned the crowd below. "Where is she?" Mako worried aloud.
"I'm sure she's just running late, bro." Bolin replied through a mouth full of strawberry tart. "This is really good, Mako! You should try it!" He said as he held up a tart for his older brother.
"Bolin! This is no time for tarts! What if she was attacked? What if she's locked up in some Equalist hideout being tortured? What if-"
The calm earthbender cut him off, "What if she's perfectly fine and you worry too much?"
"I do not worry too much! These are tough times and we're all under constant threat of a full blown war! How can you not be worried?"
"Because, Mako, you never let me. You always worried for our well being and I never got the chance to worry, because my big brother kept us safe and alive." Bolin placed a hand on his brother's shoulder, as Mako unconsciously gripped his father's red scarf. "She's okay, Mako. I promise you that she's okay."
Caring emerald met anxious amber, and Mako, not for the first time, realized that his brother wasn't a little kid anymore. He sighed heavily, "Okay, Bo, if you say so." His scarf still held in a strong grip.
The firebender looked out over the crowd again and wished he were somewhere else. What in the world had made him stand here, dressed in a suit, at a gala held in the avatar's honor, with a ring in his pocket, looking for the girl that had changed his life?
Just as he began to mull over his answer, a beautiful woman with long dark hair and bright eyes entered the room, and he immediately remembered why he was standing in a suit, at a gala, with a ring in his pocket.
It was because of the confidant, beautiful, brilliant, and courageous girl standing across the room.
Mako took a deep breath and let it out as he let go of his father's scarf to feel for the ring, making sure it was still in his jacket pocket.
"You ready for this, bro?" Bolin asked, grinning from ear to ear.
"Are you ready?" Mako questioned, his amber eyes searching for any sign that his brother was lying.
"I told you already, I'm totally cool with it!" He was telling the truth.
The firebender, with his earthbending brother in tow, left their spot at the second floor railing and made for the stairs. Each step mocked him, told him not to do it. But it was his choice. His decision.
One he knew he would never regret.
Once at the bottom of the staircase, he nervously walked up to the girl has she chatted with Chief Beifong.
At the sight of him, she immediately turned and greeted him with that gorgeous smile of hers. "Hey, Mako!" Her smile dropped as she saw his nervous expression. "What's wrong?"
He let a deep breath and dropped down to one knee. He looked up, amber eyes met sapphire and he knew he wouldn't ever regret his next words.
"Korra, will you marry me?"
The room fell silent, as everyone paused and looked over at the scene that had unfolded. They were waiting for her answer.
Her beautiful sapphire eyes and cocky grin answered him long before her voice did, "Only if you promise to show me some of your moves, Mr. Hat Trick."
He slid the ring on her finger, "It's a deal!" He replied, as he jumped up and planted a kiss on her grinning lips.
