-1 Tiny eyes flutter open, into an encased world, and though the light is dim, there is light. The entire place is surrounded by a golden glow. The being finds itself restricted…and it wants to get out, to reach that light, for it knows now what it must do. A new feeling reaches it: hunger, and it knows it must satisfy that need. Instinctively, it struggles against the outer walls of its prison. After a few minutes, a split appears, spilling a blinding amount of light upon the virgin eyes. Still, it continues its struggle, fighting with all of it's might to emerge. The entire wall was ladened with cracks and then suddenly the walls burst, bringing with them a world entire known.
Blinking for the first time, it swivels its tiny wedge shaped head to review its surroundings. It seemed to be in some sort of cavern, a large bowl with the top open to the sky, where for the first time, this being, this dragon, saw clouds and was temporarily blinded by the brilliance of the sun.
Against the sides of this bowl, on one side, a group of frightened young girls was standing, teenage to young adult by the looks of them, and all terrified for some reason by a large egg in the center of a large cluster, several of which had already hatched, but this egg was the largest, and of a bright golden hue.
This young dragonet seemed to be searching for something else, and as he turned the other way, he saw something which might end his search: boys. They seemed not nearly as frightened as the women, in fact, they seemed rather excited, but a nervous aura still wavered about them, as the approached the eggs. At the back of the group, stood a smaller boy, younger than the rest, and seemingly shunned as he was forced back from the eggs, and as the young dragon looked at the young boy, something clicked in his mind. This is who he was looking for, and stepping awkwardly forward on his infant legs, the dragonet knew what to say.
My name is Koranth. the dragonet said, not by way of his jaws, but with his mind, stepping quite close to the boy and crooning. I'm hungry. The boy looked down disbelievingly, and saw the dragon, whose wet hide glimmered bronze, and the dragonet repeated his statement urgently as he bumped his head against the boy's knee. I'm hungry! the dragonet repeated, stronger this time, and the boy reached out with a shaking hand to scratch the dragon's eye ridges, replying in a wavering but elated voice.
"Koranth! Yes, we'll get you some food straight away. The dragon crooned his approval, and followed his rider as he was led out of the Hatching Ground by a much larger man, and the boy was beaming as he followed. He had Impressed! He was a dragon rider now, and not just any dragon's rider, he was Koranth's rider, and he couldn't be happier.
