AN/ I should probably be working on my chapter story, but this short fic came to me and I had to write it, sorry.
WARNING: If you do not want ANY spoilers, and haven't seen the French clips of the last LWD episode DO NOT READ!!!
Disclaimer: This is my take of that last scene (it makes me sad to write it :( last scene…) but I can't take anything else other than that (ha ha hum). Basically…don't own it, never will. The End. ONWARDS!!
Casey had seen the light on in the kitchen. She knew who was down there. So even though she was perfectly fine with looking at available courses in the privacy of her own room, she came downstairs. He was oblivious to her scheming and that was ok. They began talking about courses; Derek mentioned something about taking some courses with her. She knew then that it had to end. She could no longer feel this way; she'd been putting it off for so long, but with her mother pregnant and the responsibility of college…
Seeing a window of opportunity, Casey grabbed it. She called him her brother, and almost grimaced. Derek corrected her as quickly as he always did, and though it hurt her, she shrugged away the obvious difference.
She linked him to herself as family, and he had agreed, hesitantly, but it was still there. She almost saw pain in his eyes, but he changed subjects too quickly for her to tell.
They continued to banter playfully, but she wasn't fully there. They were family now. Now after almost 4 years, that word family fit their relationship. It was foreign to her. Scary. Ugly. She wished she could take it back. There was nothing remotely similar between brother and stepbrother. Stepbrother gave her breathing room, stepbrother left butterflies in her stomach, stepbrother was not brother. Brother made him family, made it wrong, froze her heart, left her feeling sick. They weren't the same, but it was too late now.
But not much changed. He was still overprotective, and wouldn't let her date his friends. Maybe it was all brotherly. Maybe it always had been…
Stepbrother and brother were never the same. Never would be. But she had blurred the line. Who would see it now?
AN/ Told ya it was short! Hope you liked, I'm actually proud of it, so just let me know and REVIEW!
