Yagami Light was smart, Rem had to admit. The way he orchestrated this whole thing from, not the sidelines, but the background all together. He did it so no suspicion would be cast upon him, and if there was any Light could beat the notion down quickly and efficiently, making whoever suggested it look like an idiot. Or make the notion seem illogical, anyway. In the group Yagami Light was in, it seemed that majority ruled; that Yagami Light ruled. All were in favor of no killing, but none of them were brave enough to stand up again "Ryuuzaki," except for Light. Naturally, the others agreed with him quickly, outnumbering Ryuuzaki.

Rem knew that.

Rem also knew that Light would assume that once "Ryuuzaki" figured out Misa was the second Kira again. Rem would go into a frenzy and kill off the man, along with his assistant, and then die shortly afterwards - forty seconds, to be exact. And, despite not usually making plans to work in the long run, Rem was skilled at thinking on her feet.

"We are very close to closing the case! If this condition is cleared, the case will be resolved one step!"

With those words, she got her DeathNote out along with her writing utensil and quickly wrote, "Matsuda Touta." Feeling Light's eyes on her, she gave a little smirk and flitted back quickly to find a place to die.

Yagami Light was smart, but Rem was smarter.

Matsuda Touta was the odd choice, really. She probably could've done better to kill that Aizawa man, or even Mogi. But that wouldn't have accomplished anything, and it was Matsuda who, through his foolish actions, eventually lead "Ryuuzaki" to the conclusion that Misa was the second Kira.

Still, Matsuda was a good friend of Misa's. She had no reason to kill him - he would always pay her visits while she was made to stay at the headquarters and they would talk while Light was out doing who knows what. He was the one who admitted that he felt like a minor blip on the radar screen - not really noticed, except for the occasional noise; unlike Misa, who was a star, always noticed among the other lucky ones.

Even though killing Matsuda would eventually lead to Misa's arrest, she could trust that Misa would be fine, since Ryuuzaki had more of a suspicion towards Yagami Light anyway. "Ryuuzaki" knew Misa was an airhead and that she blindly followed Light, so it was obvious that once Light was eleminated, Misa would kill off Ryuuzaki and possibly the others and would be able to continue to live her life.

As if being blown by an invisible wind, Rem turned to dust.

"I don't want to be a blip though, Misa-Misa..." he had admitted to her quietly, hugging his knees to his chest. "I want to be a star... but that's wishful thinking, isn't it? If dreams came true, it wouldn't mean anything be a celebrity, since everyone would be one."

"He didn't even get mentioned, Light," Misa said softly. "Not in the papers, or on the news, or anything... It's like he was never here in the first place..."

"Don't worry about it," Light murmured, embracing Misa as she cried quietly, eyes glowing in the light. "When we make our new world, we'll recognize him as a hero. If people don't remember him now, they will later."

Um... yeah. I killed off Matsuda. Hahaha... I love Matsuda. I do. He's my favorite character.

But man, the LxLight vibes I got from episode twenty-five... It made me feel icky, like I was betraying my inner LxMatsuda geek...
