Once upon a time, in a land called Vapara, there lived two children, a boy, the son of a knight and a peasant girl. They were friends, you could say, but more so acquaintances. They grew up, and both lived apart.

Years went by, and one day, the peasant girl discovered that the boy had grown into a very handsome knight. She fell in love, for not only was he handsome, he was kind and had a good heart. Unfortunately, the knight had forgotten of the peasant girl, and she was heartbroken to see him cavorting with the other ladies of the court. She was devastated, but she could not be too jealous, for all she wanted was to see the knight happy, even if it was not with her. You see, the girl was not pretty as some. In fact, most would call her quite plain. But for what she lacked in looks and beauty, she made up for with a sharp mind and quick wit. One day, with the help of a good friend, the girl placed a note inside the hallow of a tree. The note confessed her deepest love for the knight, but it was not signed with her name. With the help of that friend, the knight was taken to the tree. When he discovered the note, he was instantly captivated by its mysterious origin. He begged the girl's friend to tell, but she would not. The knight began to return the notes back.

For three months the two communicated in this way, though the knight, who by the way was completely oblivious, had no idea of who was sending him the notes.

When the girl would see him in the town square, she would for the most part ignore him, only speaking to him if he did so first, so as to not make herself seem suspicious. She was quite the actress. The girl was shocked and heartbroken to see her letters to the knight on display for all the town to see.

The day came when the girl's friends threatened to tell the knight of his admirer's identity, for they were tired of the lies and deception. The girl begged, for she did not want to tell him until the ball that was being held to celebrate the knight's going into battle. But it was decided: the girl would tell him on a Friday.

The day came, and the girl was feeling very nauseous and nervous. She did not want to tell the knight, for she loved him so much and could not bear to face his rejection. With a shaking hand, she placed her final note into the tree, the one bearing her name. She did not venture out into town, for fear that she would see the knight, and that he would ignore her, or worse, mock her in front of the entire village. The following Monday, the girl was forced into town by her mother, to attend classes in the village square. Luckily, the knight was not in any of her classes, and the girl was able to avoid most everyone. But to her shock and great horror, some of her friends confided to her that they, too, were in love with the knight. The girl played well, pretending that it did not bother her, but inside, her heart felt as if it was being pulled apart.

Then, the unimaginable happened. The knight came up to the girl, and asked her to be his date for the ball. The girl was very excited. She readied for the ball with much haste. But then….

The girl woke up from her dream.
