AN: Hello all! This is a oneshot about the War Doctor's regeneration, so if you haven't seen the Day of the Doctor, I wouldn't recommend reading this. Also, I don't think of myself as a great writer, but I would like to be, and you've got to be good before you can be great, you've got to be all right before you can be good, and you've got to be bad before you can be all right, so this was just some fun writing practice. Enjoy! Any and all feedback is welcome
The doctor stepped over the threshold of his TARDIS and allowed himself a last glance at his future selves. They had restored hope in him and it had been such a long time since he had felt it, he hardly knew what to think.
Of course he would forget, but there would come a day that he would remember the salvation of Gallifrey. With a small grin, the doctor threw a few switches and launched the TARDIS into space and set course. As he did so he noticed that unmistakable golden glow around his hands, "Yes of course I suppose it makes sense," he mumbled to himself,"I hope the ears are a bit less conspicuous this time."
The doctor's head lurched back and his arms extended, he actually laughed. He felt the change complete itself, and realized he couldn't remember where he was going. "Blasted paradox," were his first words in this new body, as this new man.
His new eyelids fluttered and his vision blurred as he reached for the controls, the combined effects of the paradox and his regeneration had weakened him, just as he grasped the correct lever, the doctor swayed and collapsed onto the floor of the TARDIS.
The doctor stood slowly, he remembered carving the words "No More" into the wall at Arcadia, stealing the Moment, from there it was a blur. He scratched his head, wondering what had happened and realized his hair was shorter. So he had regenerated.
The doctor noted that the interior of the TARDIS had changed as well before it occurred to him what he had done.
He had stolen the Moment and used it to destroy his home. And everything on it. The daleks were gone. But the timelords had gone with them.
He couldn't remember actually activating the Moment, although it was probably the cause of his regeneration.
The doctor drew in a deep breath and held back oncoming tears. He hardly felt like exploring where he'd landed, but there were two words in the back of his mind. Important words, he was sure of it. Especially if he'd held on to them through the destruction of Gallifrey and his regeneration. Those two words were the most important words in the universe at that moment and those words were:
BAD WOLF.
