Mckenzie sat down at her desk to write. She pulled her new pen that Kai had given her out and silently swore to only use it to write letters to send overseas.

After brushing her softly curled dark hair behind her ear, her neat but soft and flowery script soon filled the thin army grade paper. Mckenzie's green eyes were soon brimming with tears while she wrote as she thought of the man who had willingly stepped onto a boat, unknowing of his own return.

Dear Kai,

How are the others? I hope you're okay. Yes, I know you only left a week ago, but it feels like forever. Nya misses you as much as I do, and we're helping out at the Red Cross so soldier boys like you can come home safely.

Yesterday this man came in and asked how he could help. He was old, cripple, and nearly deaf, but he wanted to help so badly because his grandson is overseas in Hungary, and all he wants is for him to come home safely. We started talking, and I ended up telling him about you. He says that young men willing to die for their country and people should be commended at the highest level of honor, and that you were so brave to be so selfless to give up everything you love. The grandson's name is Toby Kirk, and if you ever happen to see him, tell him his grandfather loves him okay?

I've told you before, but I'm so proud of you, and you're one of the bravest men I know.

Tell Cole I love him (I'll send him a letter, but in case something happens I want him to know.) and take care of Lloyd andJay. Tell Zane that Pix is waiting for him when we get the word that you're coming home.

Stay safe.

Love from my entire heart,

Your Kenzie Gal❤️

After slowly folding the paper and sliding it into the envelope, she gently kissed the paper before sealing it away to be carried thousands of miles and into the hands that held her heart.
