A/N: This is for the prompt 'a proposal gone wrong' for the Ultimate OTP Comp.
Hermione and Sirius were sitting at a table waiting for their server.
Sirius had insisted that instead of staying in that night that they eat out at the trendiest restaurant in Diagon Alley.
When they had arrived he had stated that he had a reservation, but the greeter that night could not find his name on the list.
"Let's just go home, Sirius," Hermione said trying to pull him to the door.
"No, Hermione. I know that I made a reservation," he said and turned to the greeter, "I wish to speak with the manager please,"
"Of course, sir," the greeter replied and went to find the manger.
A few minutes later the greeter returned with the manager in tow.
"Sirius Black," the manager said jovially. "What is it I can do for you?"
"I am sorry to trouble you my friend, but it seems as if the reservation I made for tonight has not been recorded on the list. I am sure that you would have passed the message on, but it seems as if it has not managed to get to where it needs to be." Sirius said apologetically.
The manager frowned a little.
"I am sorry," he said to Sirius. Turning to the greeter he instructed her to make sure that the next free table went to Sirius and Hermione.
"Good luck my friend," the manager said as he walked off to his office.
"Why did he say good luck?" Hermione asked.
"Not sure," Sirius replied shrugging.
It was another half an hour until they were seated at a table and Hermione's feet were killing her from standing.
She had wondered why Sirius had taken her to The Silver Gardens. They only usually went there for special occasions, and as far as she could remember, this was not one of them.
"Hello my name is Andrew and I will be your server tonight. Here are our menus," he said handing them to Hermione and Sirius.
"I will be back shortly to take your order, but what would you like to drink in the meantime?" he asked.
"A bottle of your finest champagne please," Sirius replied.
Once the server left they fell into conversation as they discussed what they were going to have from the menu.
They both ordered seared scallops for a starter and the lamb cutlets coated in herb breadcrumbs for a main course. Neither had ordered a dessert as they didn't know if they would be able to eat one, but Hermione had a soft spot for their toffee roulade.
By the time dinner had arrived they had been waiting for another half an hour and all Hermione wanted to do was eat, pay the bill, and go home.
"That was nice, but I think that we should come again when it's quieter. Do you want to me to call our server over and ask for the bill?" Hermione asked.
"No, I need the toilet. I will ask him on my way there," Sirius replied.
Hermione watched as her boyfriend went and talked to their server before heading to the toilets.
She had noticed that he seemed nervous and on edge all night and she could not understand why.
As Sirius sat back down she heard a squeal of delight come from behind her.
"Yes! Yes! I'd love to marry you," a woman exclaimed happily.
"I didn't order that," the man replied.
"What do you mean?" the woman asked slightly upset.
"I'm sorry, is there a problem?" they heard their server ask.
"Yes, I didn't order this," the man answered.
"Ahhh, yes. This was supposed to go to another table. I am ever so sorry madam and gentleman." their server apologised.
Coming to Hermione and Sirius' table he said, "I believe this is yours,"
"Thank you," Sirius said.
After the server had left Sirius looked at Hermione who seemed shocked.
"It was supposed to be a surprise," he said resigned.
"It's beautiful, Sirius, and yes I will marry you," Hermione said as she lifted the ring out of the cake.
"Do you want to put it on?" she asked.
"I would love to," he replied smiling.
The night may not have gone as he had planned, but at least she said yes.
