How I Told Him
"Umm, Raoul," I called, "Can you come here?"
Raoul threaded his way through the people at the ball until he reached me. "What is it my love?"
"I'm... I'm just lonely." Damn I just blew my chance.
"I'll be glad to keep you company..." Raoul smiled sweetly at me. I laughed. He really didn't want to be at the ball.
"Care to dance?" Raoul glared.
"Fine but you know that's not what I meant." I just smiled at him. Why can't I just say it? It shouldn't be that hard.
The next day I decided I had to tell Raoul but, curse my luck, he had meetings to go to and paperwork to do with Jon so unless I wanted to announce it in front of the King there was no way I was going to tell him.
A week had passed since the ball and I still hadn't told him. I had told Daine and sworn her to secrecy but I hadn't told anyone else. Now, where was Raoul? I decided to ask.
"Thayet, have you seen Raoul? I can't find him."
"Jon dragged him off to get fitted for the upcoming ball." Just my luck! I'll have to catch him tonight.
"Thanks, Thayet." Goddess, I was annoyed with Jon.
That night I changed into my nightgown and slipped into bed next to Raoul. "Raoul, honey, I've got something to tell you." I really hope he takes this well...
"What is it?" he mumbled.
"I'm pregnant."
"Okay. WAIT! You're pregnant?" He gave me a goofy smile. I nodded.
"YES!" Raoul jumped out of bed and skipped around the room. "YEAAAAHHHHHH!" Let me tell you, he was loud. Someone pounded on the door.
"Open up!" It was Jon, surrounded by Thayet, Alanna, George, Daine, Numair, Kel, and Dom. All of them had heard Raoul's yelling and come to investigate.
"I'm so happy I could dance!" cried Raoul and, to prove his point, he began doing a victory dance and disappeared back into our bedroom.
"So, I'm guessing you told him," Daine said giggling.
"Of course. The Goddess knows I didn't expect such an... interesting response."
"What are you talking about?" Thayet asked suspiciously.
"Buri is..." here Daine looked at me for permission to continue. I nodded. "Buri is pregnant." Everyone stared at me, shocked.
"Well, goodnight everybody." I started to shut the door.
"Buri," Thayet sounded mad. "We have been friends since we were little. Why wasn't I informed of this earlier?"
"Because you would've blabbed and the whole court would know by now. I didn't want anyone to know." Thayet glared at me. "Oh, and sweet dreams to everyone." I shut the door.
"You know she has a point my sweet," Jon told Thayet before they walked away.
Raoul and I returned to bed to our bed and he wrapped me in his arms, holding me tightly. We kissed and fell asleep, our arms around each other.
