Ed and I went to get some answers from the senator about what happened to his wife but ended up walking into a family free-for-all that resulted in the senator killing his daughter. Ed and I arrested him and took him down to the 2-7.

"What was with that family free-for-all we just witnessed?" Ed asked the senator.

"Nothing." The senator answered. Sure.

"Are you sure?" I growled.

"Come on man- what happened?" Ed pressed.

"Fine." The senator growled. "I'll tell you- but not that bitch."

WHAT!?

"Nina." Ed said in a voice that clearly said get out. But I couldn't let this bastard get away with what happened. He killed his wife and his daughter and now he was mouthing me off!

"Why did you murder your daughter?" I snarled.

"I DID NOT MURDER MY DAUGHTER!" The senator screeched as he knocked over the table and threw his chair through the window.

And I thought Ed and I had nasty tempers.

"CUFF HIM!" Ed screamed. A couple cops managed to help Ed calm the senator down.

"CASSADY OUT!" Anita barked while this was going on.

I shuddered and hoped that she wasn't going to go nuts. I followed her into her office.

"You can't keep your mouth shut to save your life. What is your problem Cassady?" I stared at her.

"Lieu, I'm sorry." I began. She cut me right off.

"He was this close to making a statement! This close!" She pressed her pointer finger and thumb together. I stepped back out of fear.

"You better figure out what you want to be- a good cop or a bad cop with no place on my squad!" She snapped.

Whoa! Ed said she has been known to say the meanest things she can think of when one of her cops does something he or she knows they shouldn't do but I didn't think it were this bad.

"Lieu!" I gasped.

"What!" She snarled.

"Are you trying to fire me?" I cried.

"No! Yes! I mean I don't know!" She put her head in her hands. What the hell kind of answer is that? I decided to offer an explanation even if she didn't care to hear it.

"Look. I'm sorry. It's just when I went in there all I saw was my sweet brother accidently pushing our abusive father down the stairs when he just wanted to nudge him out of the way so he didn't have to listen to him say my brother was better off dead. Then our equally abusive and insulting mother threw my brother down the stairs and shot herself. I was forced to watch and it happened a year ago today. We hated our parents so much but loved each other equally as much." I started to cry. Damn. Good going Cassady. Way to show your stuff.

"Oh Nina, I'm sorry, hon. If I had known I wouldn't have let you deal with the senator or spoken to you like I just did." Anita said softly.

"Don't worry Lieu. I forgive you." I said softly. She hugged me tightly.

"You really are coming along as a good cop." She told me.

"Thanks." I answered. I was defiantly not expecting that considering how she was forced to take me on even though she wanted someone else. At that moment Ed came out and said the senator refused to confess. I told him about my family.

"Damn, that's awful." He cried. He too gave me a hug. I suddenly felt like I belonged.
