My name is Brianna Grant. I'm 15 years old and in the 10th grade. It's June, so I'll be in grade 11 soon. I have long brown hair and I'm about 5"7. I live with my dad and I never knew my mom. The most interesting thing about me is my eyes. They are a piercing gray. My dad tells me I get them from my mom. Anyways, I'll skip to when my life changed forever. It was June 12th.
Some kids came to school today. They all looked really awkward being at school. They were introduced as Rex, Theodore, Ricky, Jose, Alan, and Stanley. Alan was kind of cute and kept looking over at me. The teacher, Mr. Adams, assigned me to show them around, as I had all the same classes as them. They all smiled and waved at me awkwardly, like they haven't seen or talked to a girl in a while. I was sitting by myself at my table, so the six of them sat around me.
"Now, as it is the first day, I will let you all mingle while I get ready for tomorrow." Mr. Adams said, and went to his computer. I turned to all the boys and saw them talking, calling each other names like Magnet, X-Ray, and Caveman. What kind of nicknames are those? Plus, they were sophomores like me, but they looked older, like they were held back. I decided to try and listen.
"So, Armpit, whatcha' think of this joint? Nothing like camp, am I right?" Rex asked. Rex was small, black with glasses and just by the body language; he was obviously the leader of them all.
"Who's Armpit?" I asked. They all looked at me. Theodore went to raise his arm, when they all freaked out and put his arm down.
"I'm Armpit. " Theodore said. He was a chubby black kid. No offense. He had shorts and an orange T-shirt.
"I'm X-Ray." Rex said.
"Magnet." Jose said. He was Mexican with dark hair. He was stuffing a pen in his pocket, looking around to make sure nobody saw him. Stanley elbowed him and he put it back on the table.
"Zigzag." Ricky said, looking around nervously. He had blonde hair that stuck up in every direction and he had electric blue eyes.
"I'm Caveman!" Stanley said. He was a little overweight with curly brown hair. His hair covered his eyes.
"I'm Squid." Alan said, kissing my hand. He was really cute, with dark hair and the most gorgeous sea green eyes. He had an accent that sounded like he was from the south, not California. I blushed.
"Oh children, you're all right! Hurry, we must leave to camp!" He said, pulling us up out of our chairs.
"Camp? What Camp?" I asked. All the guys were just as confused. Just as I was pulled up, a red-headed lady walked into the room.
"Is that the Warden?" X-Ray asked. She just hissed.
"All four demigods in one room together? This will be fun!"
"What are demigods? What is she talking about?" Squid asked.
"Why's she looking at us?" I asked. Then before we could do anything, she launched at us. Wings sprouted from her back and she turned black.
"It's a Fury!" I screamed. Most of the guys ran and hid under anything they could find. Everyone else in the room ran out behind her. She didn't seem to care; she just circled Squid, Zigzag, Mr. Underwood and me.
"Mr. Underwood, what's going on?" I asked. They guys nodded in agreement.
"I can't tell you now. Just take these and protect yourselves." He said, handing me a hat and a dagger. He handed Squid a pen and Zigzag a coin. He then took off his pants.
"Why are you taking off your pants?" I asked. He didn't react, just threw his pants off to reveal… donkey legs?
"What are you?" Squid asked.
"I'm a satyr. Now, fight her!" He yelled, taking out a dagger himself. I put on the hat and suddenly I couldn't see my hands. I couldn't see anything.
"Brianna?" Squid asked.
"I'm right here!" I yelled.
"You're invisible?" Zigzag asked.
"I guess so. Now guys, watch out!" I yelled, coming around them to block the Warden with my dagger, I found out I was actually quite good with it. I saw Zigzag beside me flip the coin and turn into a sword and Squid click the pen and it turned into a sword. Then Squid came beside me and Zig.
"What now?" Squid asked me. I watched as the Warden circled us and Mr. Underwood was blocking for us. I got an idea.
"Okay. Zig, make a distraction. Squid and I will wait for a signal and attack from behind. Go!" I said, and then watched as Zig went to the front of us and pointed the sword at the Warden. We waited until the Warden had her back to us and then Squid and I went around back.
"I'll slide under the Warden, you attack from behind." Squid said. I nodded and slipped my hat back on. Squid and I ran at the same time. He slid under her, but she turned and her wings slapped me, sending me flying across the room. I tried to get back up, but my arm hurt. I watched as Squid stabbed the Warden from underneath and she exploded into yellow dust. He then noticed that my hat was lying next to him. He looked around and saw me against the wall. He ran over.
"Are you alright? Are you hurt?" He asked.
"I'm fine, but my arm hurts a little." I answered. Mr. Underwood then ran over, making clip-clop sounds with his hooves, and bent down next to me. He then pulled a baggy out of his jacket pocket. It looked like lemon squares. He pulled one out and handed it to me.
"Here, eat this. " He said. I popped it in my mouth. It tasted like my dad's homemade fudge brownies and within seconds I felt refreshed and my arm stopped hurting.
"Mr. Underwood, that was so good. What does it do and why doesn't my arm hurt?" I asked.
"Please, call me Grover. It was called ambrosia and your arm doesn't hurt because ambrosia heals. Your arm isn't fully healed, but it will last before we get back to camp." Grover answered.
"Mr. Under- Grover- what's this camp?" I asked. Squid helped me up and we all put away our weapons.
"I'll explain when we get there. Now, come with me."
