A/N: A series of drabbles based on Mello and Near. Disclaimer: I don't own Death Note, or the characters Mello and Near.
Cold Ice, Warm Chocolate
Mello's warm fingers reached out to touch Near's cold skin. The smaller boy was lying on a bed, looking up at the blond Mello. Mello smiled at Near and continued touching his icy skin with fingers covered in remnants of chocolate. Near was asleep with his eyes closed. Mello began stroking his arm. "I'm here, Near. Everything is all right. Sleep. I will always be here."
"Mello." Near's eyes flew open. Near was lying alone on the bed, and Mello was gone. The memory of Mello was all he had left, and Near was sure that it would remain forever.
Chocolate Spirit
A pale white-haired boy stood outside on the frozen ground. The boy's neck ached as he stared up at the sky. A memory, brief yet vivid and warm, flashed in his mind. The boy saw a blond someone standing before him eating a bar of chocolate. The blond looked straight at the white-hand boy, and said, "Don't ever forget. I will always be here if you need me. Even if I go away, I won't be gone. If you need me, I will come. Remember that." The white-haired boy kept staring at the sky. He whispered, "Mello, I'm alone now. But you are here. My chocolate spirit."
Silence is Heaven
An empty room. That was his world. He spent hours sitting in that room, staring at a computer screen. Images, warm and vivid, flashed on and off. Blond figures were reflected in his eyes. Sadness gripped him, and he grasped at something lying on the floor: a crinkled chocolate wrapper. The paper crackled in his pale hand. Brown flakes fell from it, littering the floor. He clutched the wrapper as images continuously flashed on the screen. The silence was deafening. But he had his friend, and a last memento of him. To him, silence was heaven.
