Snape approached the little cottage in Godric's Hallow and timidly knocked on the door.
"I'll get it James," a womans voice called. Snape knew it was Lily.
"Okay Lils, Harry just went to sleep," a males voice called. Snape scowled. Potter.
Lily opened the door, and then stared at shock that her old friend was standing at her house.
"Hello Lily," Snape said.
"Snape," she said, nodding. She was acting civil, but Snape could tell by her eyes, that she was struggling.
"Er, I know I called you a You-Know-What in 5th year-" Snape began.
"Come back to remind me have you?" Lily said cooly.
"No!" Snape said, startled."I just- I- look, even though you weren't friends with me, I still trust your judgement more then my own. So tell me what you think of this- I have joined the Death Eaters," he finished. Lily gaped at him.
"Get out of my house!" she shouted. Snape didn't expect her to be happy, but he thought the answer would be, "well, as long as you do it correctly," or something along those lines.
"But I thought you would support-" Snape stammered.
"You think I would support you joining people who kill people like me for fun?" Lily shouted.
Snape suddenly had rage coming towards him. He did not realize this, but it was the kind of reckless rage that he had when he called Lily a mudblood.
"I joined it, because I wanted some power, something you pathetic husband never let me have!" he shouted.
"Don't you dare bring James into this!" she shouted, furious.
Snape drew out his wand, and so did Lily.
"Then kill me," Lily whispered. "It shouldn't be hard. I'm just a mudblood. Nothing important to you deatheaters. Go ahead," Lily's eyes were in slits.
"I-i have better things to do in my time then kill filthy mudbloods," he whispered.
One year later, Snape stood, tears pouring out of his eyes as he stared at Lily's dead corpse.
The last word word he had said to her, was Mudblood. Mudblood. The word that had started it all.
Snape regretted not that many things in his life. But calling her a Mudblood, was the biggest mistake he had made.
