As Chell slowly turned around the first thing she saw was a crossbow aimed at her. She didn't like that view. At the good end of the crossbow she saw a man. She guessed his age was between 40 or 50 years old. As she was examining his face, she noticed three scars across his cheek, under his brown beard. His hair looked like it was cut with a knife, wich it probably was. His clothes weren't filthy, but cleanly washed. He wasn't wearing any shoes. He then said "my name is Timothy D'heer. What's yours?" Chell thought it would be best not to lie, after all, she couldn't do anything now. "My name is Chell" the man quickly said "ok, Chell, welcome to my village" it seemed he was the major of this village. "Now, let's get you in some cleaner clothes."
when Chell left the hut in wich she changed her clothes, she took a good look at the village. There were children playing, elderly couples sitting on a bench and talking, other men and women working or guarding the village, dogs and other animals walking around or laying in the shadow. it made her happy. this was a human community, it was alot more friendly and like a family then the robot community. Lost in her thoughts, Chell didn't notice the woman coming towards her untill the woman was close enough to understand what she was saying. the woman said hi wich resulted in Chell having a small heart attack. "hello, Chell, right?" Chell quickly answered "uhm, yes, that's my name. What's yours?" the woman handed her a crossbow, a knife and some bolts and then said "there is no time. bandits have been spotted in the east, we need to be ready." Chell looked at the east, wich looked very calm. she said thank you and then quickly got a spot on one of the guard towers. litlle did Chell know that that wasn't very smart.
as Chell opened her eyes she saw nothing but blackness. "huh? I did open my eyes, right?" she thought and then closed and opened them again. she blinked a few times and with each blink, her vision got better and better. she then stood up, seeing nothing but corpses of the villagers and a few bandits and burning houses. she was at the center of the village, surrounded by burning houses. the bandits slaughtered the villagers, one by one. her memory came back, and she saw visions of what happened. she saw the walls crumbling down, people being shot, limbs being torn. it was horrible. she then saw a vision of how she became unconsious. her guard tower was hit by a grenade. she just jumped out at the right time, too soon and she would've been shot by a crossbow, too late and she would've died from the explosion. seeing these horrible images, she did what every human would do: she ran. as she was running, she cried. she cried because she would never see her best friend again, Cubey was probably dead and these people, who gave a stranger in need clothes, food and weapons were dead. slaughtered for stopped and screamed at the top of her lungs. she didn't think the bandits were able to hear her, but she wasn't more wrong about anything else. the bandits have heared her and the bandit leader, robert "The Reaper" lacoste, ordered them to leave no survivors. so, they started to search her in the burned buildings. as Chell sat down crying she could hear them getting closer, so she ran just in a random direction.
