Look Back In Anger

The past is all what can be held onto, neither the present nor the future. Prior to one's glory, there is a traumatic event that occurred, making him or her wish to surpass everyone and everything, to show the world that they weren't weak as one claimed them to be. In this rotten and ever-changing world, one had to be strong so they would survive whatever came their way, even something as close to death.
If you were born in a world where a nation was split in half, then your abilities of a duelist would go unnoticed, even if you were in fact as good as the other duelists. And if they had stayed where your past had left you in shambles, you would want to go far away from the wretched place, especially when it is inferior to a wondrous metropolis. All that you would be left for you was revenge, for the sake what they held you back from, all because you were born there also.
If you were born where you held a gift that could only be seen as a wretched mark, then all society has chosen to ostracize you, just for being different. Just for holding that one gift, you could either be the most important person in the world or you would only be thrown away, like an unwanted doll. A doll, broken and scarred, and torn away from the innocence of childhood, pushed into the cold, cruel world where no one you knew would guide you, all because of a wretched mark you are forced to bear.
The past is all that we have, but for two duelists, powers or not, what went before would only be to look back in anger, for what it has done to them. With the heavy weights of their pasts, they could only look toward the future.
