Jessie begun pacing.
"You. Hired. Riley." John bit out.
"Yes." she admitted quietly. "It was for your own good."
John grit his teeth. "I am so freaking sick of everyone telling me what's for my own good!"
"John... you don't understand. Future you... loves her. Now, you do, too. You were going to help her become human!"
"I was... what?"
"You found a way, a way to make her more human... organs, a blank cloned brain set up to electricity so her chip could travel to it... the works. But, the skeleton was the same... It was just for her!"
John scowled. "So?" he ground out through his teeth. "What do you care?"
"Because! She's ruining everything! What if she turned? She'd give them the secret--- they'd be real!"
John shook his head. "She'd be human."
"The machines have humans working for them. They're called 'Grays'. And, even if she didn't turn, if they got their hands on her... they'd disect her and find out."
John's jaw was working, but he didn't open his mouth.
"Everything would've been fine if you'd've been content to keep her your sexbot. But, no..."
"She's not a toy." John frowned, annoyed at Jessie, and slightly sick to his stomach at the thought that the future him might have treated her that way.
"At first I thought that's all she was.." Jessie said quietly. "But, then... I walked in on you once. You were... giving her pleasure..." Jessie blushed. "You were smiling, enjoying the noises... and you said that you loved her. Do you know what that might have done to the ranks? Not even accounting for the rest of the issues I just mentioned?"
John looked at Derek, then grabbed Cameron's hand and led her out the door. Meanwhile, Derek turned to face Jessie.
"I warned you not to lie to me." he said calmly.
"Derek..."
"You're lucky I don't kill you for what you almost did. Get out."
"You can't seriously want him with that... thing?!"
"Not really, no. But, he's gonna do what he's gonna do, I've learned that. But, sending in someone to cause trouble and undermine the rest of us?"
"That's not what I meant for---"
"Well, it's what you did." Sarah spat. "And, I had to put up with that little bitch on top of everything else I was going through?"
"Derek, everything I do is for the greater good."
"See? I wish I could believe you. But, if that were true, you wouldn't have lied to me."
"You found out he's your nephew and suddenly you're starting to coddle him. Love him more like a baby brother than a leader." she accused. "What are you even doing here? With them?"
"Maybe I think that we can stop this. Maybe I think that none of this has to happen."
"And, maybe you're going soft." Jessie said coldly.
Derek pulled her into a searing kiss, then pushed her away roughly, causing her to look at him with hurt confusion. "I'm sorry about this, Jess, I really am..."
And, Sarah looked away, almost cringing as she heard the shot. She looked over, seeing the wetness forming in the tough soilder's eyes, and reached out a hand to comfort him. But, he just walked out the door, leaving her standing there, alone, to look down into Jessie's lifeless eyes...
