Chapter 1: The Legend Begins

Oof! Kyle staggered back against the Monk's punches. He was trying his best to block, but the martial arts master was getting the best of him. "Your sergeant sent you here to learn self-defense. He would be ashamed to see you beat by a man half your size." The Monk was leering at him now. Kyle's rage was getting the best of him; he rushed furiously at the man. The Monk jumped back, nimbly dodging his blows. Then, he did something unexpected. As Kyle was launching a haymaker at his head, instead of stepping back, the Monk stepped in. His fist caught Kyle squarely in the jaw. He fell to the ground and the metallic taste of blood clouded his senses. "Slow and sloppy," the Monk chided, "it's a wonder you haven't been killed yet."

"Damn you." Kyle spat blood at him.

"Oh, so the insect speaks now. What are you going to do about it?" Kyle rushed the man again, this time landing a solid hit on his sternum. However, instead of staggering back, the Monk took his leg and kicked him in the face. Blood poured from Kyle's nose.

"Stop!" Kyle held up his hand, "I need to see a White Mage, I can hardly see through all this blood."

"Do you think that in the heat of battle, the opponent will let you call 'time out' to heal yourself?" The Monk picked Kyle up by his shirt and planted his fist in his stomach. In return, Kyle spat blood in his face and kicked him in the groin.

"No, but I think you'll let me."

"Dammit," the Monk glared at him, "thirty minutes at the Guild, then I expect you back here." Kyle nodded and ran off. The Monk sighed, then flinched as a crowd that had formed around the two fighters cheered.

Meanwhile…

"FIRAGA!" Serena dodged the gigantic fireball and landed a blow with her hammer on the Black Mage's ribcage. Bones crunched and the Mage spat up blood.

"CURAGA!" a light enveloped the Black Mage as the bones mended themselves, "Loki, you have to be careful."

"It's pretty hard when a gorgeous White Mage is whacking you with an enormous hammer."

"It's not going to happen."

"Really? I thought I had something going the-"

"No." Their conversation was interrupted as a very bloody Warrior collapsed after entering the doors to the Guild. "Dammit. Loki, get him on the table," he obeyed as Serena cracked her knuckles, "It's time to get to work."
