Chapter 1

"What a good book…" Hermione Granger muttered to herself.

"Oh, you don't want that." A voice said from behind her.

Startled, Hermione dropped the book and whirled around.

"That's supposed to be some pretty advanced magic." The voice continued, only now she could see that the voice belonged to a boy about her age, with pale skin, blond hair, and brilliant green eyes.

"Is it?" Hermione asked in surprise. "It really didn't seem very difficult to me."

The blond boy scoffed. "It always seems easy when you read the theory."

"Oh...well...I actually did a few of the spells." Hermione said in embarrassment. "I know we're not supposed to do magic outside of school but I just couldn't-"

Hermione said quickly before being cut off.

"Did you really?" The blond said, impressed. "What's your name?" He asked her.

"I'm Hermione Granger." She answered. "Who are you?"

The blond looked at her in surprise "I'm Malfoy. Draco Malfoy." He said, recovering his composure. "My father is Lucius Malfoy, I'm sure you've heard of him. He's rather well known around here." Malfoy said cockily.

"Oh." Hermione said. "Actually, everything around here is new to me. I honestly just found out I was a witch a week ago."

The boy instantly paled. "I need to go." He said quickly, his voice full of fear , anger, and shock, before quickly turning to leave.

"I see you've met young Mr. Malfoy." Professor McGonagall said from behind her.

Hermione turned around. "Why did he leave so quickly?" She asked

"There are some people," Professor McGonagall explained, "Like Draco's father, that believe that they are better than everyone else because they are pureblooded. Do you know what that means dear?"

"Yes. Like Salazar Slytherin." She said.

The professor nodded. "Draco, like his father, was probably taught that muggleborns, like you, are stupid, and an abomination against wizard kind."

Hermione nodded slowly. "Is that why be left?" She asked, hurt. "He didn't want his father to see him with me?"

"I don't think so." The professor said. "You see, I'm very sorry but I'm sure he believed in all the lies his father told him." She chuckled softly. "You just proved to him that everything his father taught him is a lie." She smiled at Hermione. "I have a feeling that you'll be seeing a lot more of Mr. Malfoy this year. Now come, we still need to get your robes." She said, brushing Hermione out of Flourish and Blotts. "Is there anything else you want to know dear?" She asked the child.

"Yes." Hermione answered. "I'd like to know more about the 4 houses please."

The professor nodded. "The first house is Gryffindor. Gryffindor students are brave, and chivalrous . They have nerve, but they can also be a bit hot headed at times. Then, there are the Ravenclaws. Ravenclaws are intelligent and creative. They are remarkable witty, but they can be very cocky at times. Hufflepuff is the next house. They are loyal, hardworking, and patient. They try to be as just as possible, but they do have a rather nasty reputation of being a bit of pushovers. Lastly, there's Slytherin house. Slytherin are ambitious and cunning. They are leaders, and they are resourceful. Unfortunately, it is rather popular opinion that they will do anything to achieve what they desire." The professor finished.

Hermione stares at her in awe. "Which house are you?"

The professor smiled proudly. "I am the head of Gryffindor house."

"Oh." Hermione said with a slight nod. "I thought you might be a Ravenclaws."

The older women smiled at her. "You know, the sorting hat almost put me in Ravenclaws house."

Hermione smiled at her. She felt that she could completely trust this women.

"What house do you want? You seem like either a Slytherin or a Ravenclaw." Professor McGonagall told her.

"I want to be in Slytherin." Hermione said.
