A freak. A monster. That's what she'd always been told she was. Why she was in a goddamn bus with other kids. Why Lilith Maya Archer inched away from the boy beside her as hours passed. Lilith didn't know the boy's name, and she couldn't care less. They finally arrived at their destination and Lilith was the first one off the bus, only to be pushed back by a man- a PSF as they called each other. He pointed his rifle at her chest. "No funny business, freak," he said. She made a face at him and he shoved her onto the ground with the tip of the rifle. He whacked her across the face with it, and she yelled. The boy who'd been sitting next to her on the bus immediately grabbed the man's shoulder and turned him around.
"Kill yourself," he said simply. The PSF raised his rifle and shot himself in the head with it. More PSFs came out and one started muttering into a radio. One finally came with a muzzle like device in their hand and strapped it over the boy's face. Lilith touched her nose, where the muzzle would fit if they put one of those on her. They were led away, forced in a line as one by one, they entered a room. When it was Lilith's turn, she turned to run but the PSFs just pushed her in.
"Ah, come. Sit down," a voice told her. There was another man, a scientist if the white lab coat told her anything. He had gestured to a seat, and next to it was a cot where wires and gadgets were connected to a machine. Lilith sat down on the chair. "What's your name?" he said, trying for a kind voice. Obviously that had worked for someone else. Not her though.
"Who the hell are you and what do you want from me?" she demanded.
"Your name, sweetheart. Not all the damn questions in your brain."
"Fine. Lilith."
"Do you have a last name, Lilith?"
"Why the f-" She stopped herself. "Archer. Lilith Archer."
"Excellent. Now can you go into the cot? I promise it won't hurt." I promise.
"I don't believe in promises."
"Just go into the god-forsaken cot." He picked her up by the front of her shirt and shoved her in forcefully. She screamed as it scanned her and finally, a slip of paper came out. But she didn't let him read it. She snatched it and read. Lilith Archer. Red. "What does it say?"
"Red." His face fell as flames danced at her fingertips, and ordered the PSFs to take her away.
