Atopos - Been awhile since I've written anything old...or new for that matter. This is dedicated to one of my friends who told me to use the words 'whipped cream', 'coffee', and 'winter' in a story with Pein and Konan as the pairing. I've never used these two has a pairing (for a serious story line) before, but I did my best. I hope you enjoy some randomness, but just to let you know, I believe that the whipped cream is related to emotional peace between two people who love each other very much
R&R people because who really knows when the next time I update will be.
Whipped Cream
"Whipped cream?" Pein asked, staring at the topping now sitting on Konan's morning coffee. "At this time?"
Konan shrugged. "Why not? What else is there to look forward to?"
Pein stared blankly at her. "You're mildly depressing today."
Once again, Konan shrugged, picking her mug up and bringing it to her lips. Pein was very close to telling her that she had missed the cream decorating her top lip, but didn't think she would appreciate it.
"Missing the other already?" Pein went on, taking the seat next to her.
"I guess so," Konan sighed softly. "It is very quiet with no one here screaming at each other."
"Even Deidara?"
Konan glared threateningly at him. "I never said anything bad about him. The joke about me hating him because I thought he was prettier was made up by Hidan."
"Right, and now they're both dead."
"And you sound so cheerfully with that fact."
Pein turned away pointedly. "I miss them like anyone else would. They were a family to us."
Konan still seemed skeptical over the matter. "Yeah, and here it is, the middle of winter, with no one left. We barely have enough fire wood with Kakuzu dead and Kisame out on a mission. We've even considered burning Sasori's puppets, but I couldn't do it. We have no decorations, or traditions, and we don't have any young members left. Everything's gone, Pein, we have nothing left."
"We still have each other," Pein replied, "and that's enough for me. Don't you have anything to get up every morning for? To fight for? Even though everything seems lost?"
Konan motioned to her mug. "I have whipped cream on hot coffee, my paper creations, and you, my partner."
Pein's expression brightened. "That's right. And trust me, that's all we really need. That's what I believe. You need to trust me with that."
"Don't worry," Konan muttered in agreement. "I trust you." She nodded slowly with her words. "I truly, truly do."
"Good, now pass the whipped cream."
