Olivia's POV
I remember the summers of my childhood quite vividly. My mother would ship me down to my grandparent's house in a town I so affectionately called Abso-Frickin-Lutely Nowhere, Virginia. But my summers were always the best times in life. My mother was nowhere to be found and my grandparents, Rose and Jay, spoiled me rotten.
Oddly enough, I was one of many tomboys in the town and all of the children gathered almost everyday for a game of baseball. I was quickly dubbed as the First Baseman, I never missed a throw.
Even though the little town was under populated and under paid we were all happy. Outside Tommy Johnson's house was his father's old upright that all of the kids tried, and failed, to tune.
I laugh now, thinking of those days. I'm 37 years old, happily committed to the woman of my dreams, Alex Cabot, and we're expecting a baby. In fact, one of my favorite things to do is sing to the very pregnant belly of my love and, at least I've been told, I'm a pretty damn good singer.
I was
10 An
American child
I was thin
I was playin' first base
With a second hand
glove
And dirt on my face
In nowhere Virginia
Who'd ever
figure that kid in the yard
Would go very far
Cuz' 419
Lakewood had no silver spoons
Just an old beat up upright
That
played outta tune
Now I'm singin' and livin' the life that I
love
And when I count my blessings
I thank God I was...
An American child
Cuz' dreams can grow wild
Born inside an American Child
Jaylen
Alexandra Rose Benson-Cabot was born August 27, 2008 at 7 pounds 3
ounces and a nose that looked a hell of a lot like mine. The moment I
saw her she had me wrapped around her little finger and she was
burrowed deep in my heart. 7 pounds 3
ounces An American
child
She's got my nose
And she's into my heart
As deep as
it goes
With a promise that's more than just someone's last
name
Anyone's equal
In late August came...
An American child
Cuz dreams can grow wild
Born
inside an American Child
Jay Benson
would've been 80 today, the day his granddaughter was born, but in
1945 he had a seizure that caused him to be paralyzed from the waist
down for over 30 years and, a mere 5 years ago, cost him his
life. My grandfather would've been 80
today
But in '45
He fell down beside...
An
American child
An American child
Cuz dreams can grow wild
Born
inside an American Child
Looking at Alex and Jaylen all I can see is perfection. Blue eyes smile up at me and I grin back, "I love you Lex."
"Love you too Livvy."
I never really believed all the dreams I had over those summers would come true, but now they have.
