"WHY do you hate me?" James yelled from behind me as I walked away.
"Because!" I shouted, turned on my heel. "I want to be able to look at you without wanting to kiss you! Because I KNOW you! I KNOW what you do! I've SEEN what you do! And, I KNOW that if I let you get to me, you'll only break my heart!" Gasping, with tears rolling down my face, I stood there, letting him come closer to me and take my face in his hands.
"Lily," He murmured. "I promised myself a long time ago that I would make sure no harm ever came to you for as long as I live." My eyes looked up at his and I was trapped. "Do you really think I would make that promise just so that I could go hurt you, myself?"
I considered his question for a moment, watching the light dance in his eyes, and said slowly. "Well, no, but… shit happens…"
Seeing I was less guarded than I was, he chuckled softly, and slowly let his lips meet mine.
