A/N: This is for the Pickup Lines from Lame to Perverty challenge by Mi High Lover
It was a lovely Sunday afternoon, the birds sang, the grass was green, the sky was blue, and all was well. Severus sat in the grass at the neighbourhood park, pulled out a book, and began to read. He was growing rather bored of the story, when he heard two girls giggling.
"Tuney, not so high! I feel like I'm about to fall!" The girl on the swing had the reddest hair Severus had ever seen, he almost couldn't believe it, the one pushing her, had brown hair, and looked to be slightly older.
"Lily, don't worry, I won't let you fall." The red-headed girl… Lily, began to giggle again, her smile was so pretty, and jumped off of the swing. "Catch me Tuney!" She ran around the park, leading her sister around trees, up and down the slide, under benches and all sorts of other unruly places. The older one lost her wind much quicker then Lily had. "Lils, I think it's time to go now alright? Mum will have supper ready soon."
Lily looked disappointed, "Okay Petunia." She grumbled, and stomped off behind her sister. Severus vowed to talk to the readhead the next chance he got.
He stayed in the shadows, a quiet observer, for another month, always being too frightened to approach Lily when her sister was there, which she always was. Until one day.
Severus had been reading in the park for quite some time, and was about to go back to his parents, when he saw her. Alone.
Gotta act fast. He stood, and approached her, the nine year old was so nervous he almost turned around. "Hello." That was all that was needed for the girl to turn around, "Oh, hello, I think I've seen you here reading before. I'm Lily, what's your name?"
He was so shocked that she was so nice, he very nearly forgot his name. "I'm S-Severus." There was a pause, he had no idea what to say next. He was about to just turn and walk away, when he remembered something an older boy had said to a girl working at the grocery store, and he said it without thinking.
"If beauty were time, you'd be eternity." His eyes widened, and his cheeks went red. He hadn't meant to say that. Oh she'll think I'm some sort of freak or something. I've really done it now. Her cheeks went bright red. And suddenly, without warning, she began giggling.
Her laughter was contagious, and before long, Severus was laughing with her. After they had finished their laughing fit, she yelled, "I bet you can't catch me!" And immediately took off, her red hair trailing behind her like fire off of a comet in one of Severus' space books.
He chased her, and they went back and forth one chasing the other until they couldn't run anymore because of side cramps and shortness of breath.
From that day on, they were nearly inseparable, one calling on the other nearly every day, to go outside and play.
