Sleepy

A one-shot (I finally understand what it means). None of this is mine...well, except the plot.

The last exam was tomorrow. A lazy Friday. And what a lazy subject—history.

Elena looked at her watch. "It's already six," she muttered to herself. Purrcy was purring at her feet. Meanwhile the text she was reading had still not decreased in the number of pages. Despite her zealous efforts to read the required text, there was still twenty or so pages left.

The effects of wanting to put it off 'til last moment: Cramming. And laziness—just when you need to cram.

She stood up and stretched.

"I'm so darn sleepy!" she said, feeling her stiff body relax. "I wonder how Zick's doing?"

Purrcy meowed with as much energy as Elena.

She thought about dropping in for a short visit. But they had just come home from school, just said, "See you later," a few minutes ago. But if it was the only reason to get away from her pile of readings right now, the idea was welcome.

The next moment, she was at his bedroom door.

It was locked.

"Mrs. Barrymore, I can't open it," she called downstairs.

"Just knock! He's studying." replied Greta.

She groaned silently. She turned the knob. Nothing. "It's not working," she complained in a whisper. "What's gotten into that Zick? He doesn't usually lock up."

She pressed her ear to the door.

"Maybe he ran away. But that's a crazy idea."

She knocked again.

"Zick?"

Then before she knew it, the door swung open before her, and what met her eyes was simply beyond any of her theories.

He was sleeping, his book fallen off the edge of the bed. Sleeping.

"I knew I should have gotten some rest as well!" she thought, smiling. But she couldn't stop herself from coming inside, coming closer to him. She couldn't stop thinking what it would have been like if, perhaps, she was also asleep in her dreamworld—dreaming of him.

And he awoke. "Elena? What're you doing here?" he asked, surprisedly. He rubbed the sleepiness off his eyes and picked up his book. "I thought you were studying."

"Me too."
